Am I reading this right - $1.00 stamps coming

Just read this on the Oz post site ... http://auspost.com.au/media/documents/Reform-Fact-Sheet.pdf

postage will be in 2 speeds ...regular and fast. Slow post will be going from 70c to $1.00 and faster post will be more.

What a joke .......

The proposal is before the ACCC at the moment, IF approved, it will certainly not come in until at least September.  Auspost is proposing a two level system where regular letters will take 2-4 days to arrive, while a new priority service will take 1-3 days (as is supposed to be the case now for regular). The proposal is for the regular letter rate to go to $1 (presuming that means large letters will be $2, $3, and $5 if they use the same formula).  Christmas cards will stay at 65c.  There is also a suggestion that a trade off will be Saturday deliveries but not certain about that.

Cheers,

Penny

It will be interesting to see if I pay the extra for the faster service, whether mail I send to Victoria from Central NSW will arrive in less than 3 weeks........which is what it's been taking since last Oct/Nov

Something needs to be done, and done fast. Like starting up a rival postal business. Unless the Australian Government™&© (obviously a for-profit business) disallows competition to services it has a share in. Maybe Australians should file a class action lawsuit against both Australia Post and the Government of Australia for allowing this.

Also, fsck Christmas cards. Why would the postal service keep religious-themed mail cheaper than regular paper mail sent in the same days of December? That alone is worth a class-action lawsuit. We may as well follow America's footsteps and start suing major corporations left, right and centre instead of taking it up the asre for decades like we do in this country.
