I know this has likely been done to death, but work is slow and I figured it couldnt hurt to ask.
I sell trading cards, and if you search one of these cards "Pyromancer's Gauntlet" and leave it sorted by best match.
Now the item I have listed finishes tonight. Its 11th on the list.
So, I have no problem at all with almost all of those sellers listed above me. I realise they have way more feedback and have been around longer. I still need to earn my stripes so to speak.
The ones I do have issues with are the USA listed items with a $20 postage price.
Now in what world is paying $23 a better match than paying $1.00 ? And yes. I know people can just skip those and go to mine.
And thats fine for these sort of items, but I cant imagine how someone selling something with way more listings can cope with it.
And I know theres going to be those of you saying "Suck it up, thats ebay, you dont like it dont sell here" ect ect.
But I was just mostly curious if anyone else thinks that its not really a "Best Match"

IMHO international sellers should be excluded by default from best match search results becasue this is ebay Australia.
They just need to set the default search to Australia ONLY on their web site design. Very simple change I would expect.
Means if people wish to see all the international sellers they can simply flick the filter OFF.
I've had this bleat before because in our particular category we are flooded out by sellers from China.

yeh I figured as much.
As I said, its not so bad on things like im selling, but in a catergory with say Phone Covers it would just be crazy.

Just shows you how bad things are when ebay's best match system is rewarding postage pirates based in the United States above legitemit local sellers.
The only explanation for it all is that best match is being "massaged" by ebay insiders and is obviously a tainted, biased and prejudiced system that we are meant to believe is here to "help" buyers ..
Anyone here remember when store items were too confusing for buyers and ebay started to help buyers by hiding store items? .. well after that grubby interlude in ebay history which destroyed and bankrupted quite a few long term successful ebay sellers who were heavily invested in inventory you just kind of give up on believing a word ebay says.

I don't believe savvy buyers would entertain 'best' match for longer than it takes to get a useful search order. Thus, I don't bother trying to get high in those results. Sales are steady, so savvy buyers seem not to be too light on the ground.

And thats exactly my point. Why have in place something that it seams no body uses anyway, and that appears to have its share of flaws.

We believe the opposite, at least in our category.
When we see an explosion in sales we take a look at our best match search rankings. Invariably our items are high up on the results list.
Conversely when sales are low the listings are way down.
