I listed an old slouch hat, and got this response:
We had to remove one or more of your listings for not following our Police-related items policy. We understand that this must be frustrating. But don’t worry — we’re here to help!
What happened
Police and emergency response uniforms, equipment, or accessories can’t be sold on eBay.
You listed an Australian Defence Forces uniform component. Australian Defence Force items can be sold with the written authority of the Minister for Defence or a person authorised in writing by the minister. Any listing for Defence Force items must clearly show this written authority. We appreciate you chose to utilize our site, but we must ask you to please follow the guidelines in this notice.
There are plenty of similar hats on there.

Really???
You're actually asking for advice on how to circumvent an eBay policy... you're joking, right?
This has to be a wind-up.

If there were no ads on there for identical hats, I would accept that they can't be sold there, but there are plenty. How? It makes me think I've inadvertently triggered an inappropriate rejection.

Denzel, that's a bit harsh with your response IMHO.
peters6086, I have been collecting militaria for many years now and have noticed that Slouch Hat listings have decreased dramatically in the last few years, for no apparent reason.
I can't give you a reason why that is so, or if it's key words that rigger the 'bots or what. There are a few listings for Slouch Hats, maybe have a look at some of them and try your listing with keywords that those listings use.
Good luck with it.

"There are plenty of similar hats on there"
eBay don't monitor listings. Yours would have been reported by someone.
The others haven't been reported
"We had to remove one or more of your listings
Note :
If you were an outright scammer selling thousands of $$$s worth of NON EXISTENT items
there's a very good chance that eBay would have
1) Ignored the report
or
2) Contacted you , removed any negative feedback and told YOU to end the listing/s

No, it wasn't harsh at all. Did you not notice the edit by the mod?
The bit where the OP openly asked for advice on how to circumvent the relevant policy has been removed, and that deleted content is exactly what I was referencing. So again, not harsh at all - just purely factual.

You certainly have a way about you. 🤣

Doesn't like karma, though.

Can't help it - but I always think Uncle Acid. 🤣
