Hi all,
We have recently been having some problems with postage stamps not sticking to envelopes and falling off in transit. This has resulted in us getting some underpaid postage fines (3 times so far). In one case an item showed up with no stamps on it at all when we know it left here with 2 on it. Most of our items take 2 stamps.
We usually buy either the rolls of 200x or books of 200x. It has happened with both.
We approached our local PO and they actually acknowledged the problem existed for the rolls of 200x only. However, when we phoned AP they dont want to know about it unless we can show proof it is happeneing. How can we do that?
We have taken to taping down the stamps in an effort to overcome the problem. But this adds time to packing of course. We are mailing out approx 20 packages (large letter) each day.
Not quite sure what to do about this one. Any ideas?

Some of ours fit into a DL envelope less then 5mm thick. These are only 60-cents.
Most are large letters (C4/C5) less than 125gm and less than 20mm thick. These are $1.20.
Some are large letters between 125gm and 250gm less than 20mm thick. These are $1.80
Anything other than these we use C&S satchels.

Fair enough.
At least I don't have stamps to fall off and incur penalties.
And I reckon the $1.40 for up to 500g, as long as it fits in a letter, is a bargain. I had one last week that was 300g. But fit in a C5. For $1.40.

My mother collects stamps and she always curses when people put sticky tape over the stamps as it won't come off.

Glustick or blustick
Rub the stamp over the top of it and away you go.

I've had exactly the same problem, and received a number of bills from AP for no stamps or not enough stamps.
When we went into the PO to talk to them about it, they flatly informed us we were not allowed to put tape over the stamps. When we said how they were coming off, and peeled some off in front of them, they didn't know what to say. Even bending the envelopes caused the stamps to lift at the corners.
Now we put tape over the top part of the stamps. So if they lift, you can still see there were stamps on there. We use kraft envelopes for 98% of everything we post, and the stamps just lift off. This happens mostly with the 100 and 200 rolls. Didn't seem such an issue with the books.

I asked at my local PO and was told it was fine to put tape over them.

I just today took my envelopes we normally use down to my local AP.
They said that this is an envelope problem. These are the PPS envelopes from Officeworks we have been using for the past couple of years. Suddenly we have started having this problem!!?? Seems the stamps might have some part to play here too.
But... they just kept on saying that we are using envelopes not approved for use by Aust Post.
So they said we can continue to tape over the stamps unti we use up all 500 or so of these envelopes we have. Just so long as the tape does not cover the entire stamp face as they need to be able cancel them.
Just as well the tape sticks better than the stamps. Wonder if they might consider using the same glue on the stamps.
So apparently we have to source approved envelopes then the stamps will stick OK.
Would the AP person who comes in here sometimes like to make some comment on this please?

no waaaayyyy
now I know this really needs to be over on the conspiracy theory thread where someone is suggesting eBay themselves are shill bidding
BUT,
it's not really possible that the stamp making people have devised some glue that only sticks to certain envelopes, is it?
I mean, seriously?
and then only Aus Post have the secret formula for the surface to which they stick to increase the sale of their merchandise?
Noooo waaayyyyyy
that post lady had too much holloween candy me thinks.

I had the same problem recently with envelopes and stamps both provided by AP.
Had to tape the tops and bottoms to the envelope, very frustrating..

It is really nothing new. Stamps have been coming off envelopes ever since the self sticking stamps became available. I always tried to buy stamps with glue rather than the fancy self sticking ones that did not stick.
These days I get prepaid envelopes and only suffer the self sticking stamps at Christmas.
