Australia Post Website

I have been using the Australia Post website for years as a guide as to calculate postage.   I go into it today as I have to send a parcel to Western Australia and is asks me the measurements and weight and comes up at $36 something.  I am not using a box but one of the expandable tough bags and it wont let me enter the stuff in manually without the measurements of the bag and then it comes out dear again.   Has anyone been having trouble with this?  I have now had to drive down to the Post Office to check with them with the postage and will now package it up and go back later and post, does anyone know of a better way than this as I am now out of pocket about $4 with postage because of this.

Re: Australia Post Website

I noticed it had changed the other day. Apparently from October ALL parcels will be cubed, regardless of shape, size or weight.

Have you looked at the flat-rate satchels and boxes? If your item fits into one of them the postage is generally cheaper.

Re: Australia Post Website

Another useful tip if you're interested. If, as I do, you use a lot of large letters but don't require the full 260 x 360 x 20mm, instead of paying $3.50 to send up to 500g, substantial savings can be made by using prepaid C5 envelopes which can still carry up to 500g but for only $1.70 (or even less in bulk amounts). This represents a saving of in excess of 50% for every letter sent.

 Medium C5

500g

162 x 229 x 20mm

$1.70

$16.15 (1-4 packs)
$15.30 (5+ packs)

Re: Australia Post Website

I agree there are bargains to be had if you do the sums and know the product range.

I remember AP used to do prepaid International C5, bought in bulk (atleast a 10 pack)

I found it a handy/economical way of posting overseas. So sad they removed it - I no

longer post much overseas because of it.
