Cubing is only going to affect eparcel contracts (at this point) - bold is mine
"I know that this is a confusing and concerning subject, so please allow me to clarify my earlier statement. For regular consumer customers and all business customers not on an eParcel contract, it will be business as usual when it comes to cubing. Australia Post has always reserved the right to cube unusually shaped parcels and the decision is at the descretion of the Post Office where the parcel is lodged. Apart from the parcel and price changes that are being introduced in April for Consumer and non-eParcel customers, is a change that will specifically affect our eParcel customers, which is the eParcel Dimension Weight Scans, which will ensure that our eParcel customers are being charged the correct amount of postage for their parcels. This will mean that any eParcel Customers who have been over- or underestimating postage in the past will be charged the actual postage rate applicable to their parcel which could mean a reduction in postage just as easily as a rise in postage. I hope that this clarifies matters about cubing for everyone. Alice"

Tagn.. are you able to get a second parcel contract for items which are big and light and affected by the eparcel cubing. Then see if you can spark up a relationship with your local PO.. most will let you drop and run.. where you can leave your mailing statement and parcels at the counter when they are busy so they can process them during their quieter times.

MY QUESTION EMAILED TO AUST POST: a small parcel (i.e. book) weighing 400g, 30 cm and 15 cm x 5 cm; is the cost going to be $6.95 for a 500g regular parcel?
or is cubing compulsory for all small parcels?
AUSTRALIA POST REPLY 20 MARCH 2013: Thank you for taking the time to contact us about our April price increase.
Small parcel's weighing up to 500g will be $6.95
I hope that this information has clarified the matter and been of some assistance. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Well and good....What about LARGE parcels weighing up to 500 grams? ie. a 20 metre roll of bubble wrap.
What about extremely extremely large parcels weighing up to 500 grams?
What about humungus, gargantuan, epic sized packages up to 500 grams?
What about the fact that today you could be charged $6.95 for your large parcel under 4500 grams but tomorrow or next week or next month when you post a parcel with the same dimensions (and the line is not so long giving employees more time to cube) that you may be charged 5 or 10 times the opriginal cost depending on delivery location.
or
an enterprisong Ap logistics QA officer checks your package at the sorting centre and send the customer ( or you) an unerpaid postage bill for 4 or 5 times the amount of the original freight
How can anybody quote a firm delivery price under those conditions??
