it seems that when a seller misadvertises about where an items location is a (australia-china etc) and is reported for a wrongfull ad then ebay does nothing to resolve the problem.
i purchased an item and paid twice the going rate (same item half price in china) because i was in a hurry to get the item because the seller advertised the item as being in australia, the item never arrive in the specified time and then when it finaly arrived i find it was actually sent from china.
so far ebay has done nothing to sort this problem out and now just are not even interested in doing anything to protect the buyers from ebay from having the same thing done to them.
without buyers ebay and the sellers would not excist

What makes you think you would have received it any faster from a domestic seller? They often don't post for a few days and then if they live in the back of beyond it can take a couple of weeks to be delivered.
I find it is usually easy to tell from feedback and DSRs if an item is coming from overseas or not.
If I wanted something quickly the last place I would buy it would be on-line.

Postage time stars are 4.9
Item location - Kogarah
Delivery (as stated) 2-7 working days
I'd say bobwater was quite justified in expecting that it would be delivered expeditiously, wouldn't you? Certainly justified in expecting that it would be delivered from the location in the listing.
You are always on about the 'numpty' sellers who leave false positives yet here is a high volume seller who is clearly (in this case anyway) contravening eBay policy and you lambast the poor buyer!
Ridiculous.

Have to agree, the seller is being dubious at best as to the location of the item.

If you feel energertic enough and their account shows as registered here, pull their contact details and if they are false report them as ebay take false details quite seriously.
On the other report, the seller gets a chance to respond and quite often will state they have product here and when they run out of stock they claim they need to get it from their overseas supplier. Doesn't give ebay much of a chance to nail someone on that one, unless of course they receive countless reports of the same.

The difference is something bought from Oz is generally dearer than the same item from HK, the biggest difference is an item purchased from Oz should be in your letter box within 7 days.
an Item coming from HK takes the best part of 14 to 21 days
A seller claiming an item is in Oz and posting from HK is a shonk and taking business away from Oz sellers when a buyer is prepared to pay more because they want it quickly or want to support local sellers.
either way its dishonest and deserves a neg and 1 star for postage and description

As the seller's postage time star is 4.9 I suspect it is not a common occurrence. But that's just my take on it. Far be it for me to interfere with a public pillorying.

Too true Dave... posts 2,3 and 5 already did that 😉

Does it matter if it is common occurrence or not? The point is that the OP needed the item in hurry, that is why they paid more for item located locally. It came too late because it was sent from o/s. It is just like people paying for Express and seller taking 3 days to post and then use ordinary mail. It is just not on.
Bob, but there is not much that eBay can do besides having the report option "item location misrepresentation".

That was my take on it nova, can't for the life of me see any pillorying going on, just the usua; parrot reply with no useful input at #7
