Best Delivery Message I've Seen

It's no secret that I don't like sellers that use Registered Post but don't bother to mention it in the listing. (I am too slow getting to the door - with my walker frame - and I can't drive to the post office to collect the parcel).  So I have started emailing sellers first to ask, especially if it's something that won't fit in the letterbox, is expensive etc. For others that do allow safe drop/authority to leave I have clear instructions which I copy and paste into the message to seller (and a separate email if the sellers asks for it).

For sellers who use computer generated labels I just have to hope the delivery person (courier or AP) will read the tiny lettering re delivery instructions....assuming it's been put on the label that is.  Couriers are the worst.  I've had a run of them lately that while I have specified where the parcel should be left, have managed to put it outside the right door....but as in RIGHT outside the door against the security screen door.  Arrggghh.  As I said - I use a walker frame.  The more I open the outer screen door the more my purchase gets away from me...off the rubber walking ramp.  If I'm lucky it wil end up behind the open screen door but still on the paving.  If I'm unlucky it will sail off the paving and fall into the garden (there's a deep step I can't manage) where I can't reach it.  Grrr.  If the parcel is light I might be able to latch under it with something and pull it back on the paving but if it is heavy I need help.  Most of the AP contractors get it right (or almost right) thank goodness.

Recently I took delivery of a boxed item where the seller had noted my delivery instructions and IMO came up with a great way for the delivery person not to miss them.  Alas this works best for addressing where you make your own labels...on a sheet of blank paper with a good choice of fonts that is....but it is something to keep in mind.

Stuck on the box was a sheet of paper with TO: and then on the next tine BEFORE my address were my delivery instructions - in bold, lowercase text of around 16pt (could be more) and in RED.

After that, on subsequent lines was my name and address - in a larger size and in bold black capital letters.

Think about it for a minute.  What delivery person shouldn't glance at the address at some point to check that it is correct?  With this parcel the first thing seen would have been the delivery instructions, then the name and address.  I know he read it, because this time AP did the delivery (standard post untracked) and as good as they have been, I've never seen a parcel left in the right place with such precision. LOL

Hats off this seller.  Thankfully the item I bought is very good too so I am adding this seller to my saved seller list with a note.

I handwrite & capitalise in red pen any buyer special delivery instructions; Even when using Ebay post. That way the parcel driver can't fail to see the message!

For buyer requested Registered or SOD parcels I have a small stash of those red "Do Not Safe Drop" stickers. Yet still I write "signature required & paid for" in red pen on the parcel.

Many has been the time that my siggie required items have been jammed into my own mailbox or chucked on the doorstep. I figure the buyer has paid for a service & I'll try my best to ensure they get the service that they paid for!

There are bad days when I can't walk too well - So do understand your perspective Zanadoo!

But with regards to addresses; 10.30 pm last night I had a Pizza Hut delivery man wake me; Demanding money for the pizza ordered to my address! When I finally opened the security door it was for an address 10 houses up the road! No apologies from the driver person!

I've had one pizza guy phone me to say he was at my door and had knocked so why didn't I open the door?  I told him he wasn't at my house (I checked).  He insisted he was.  I said he wasn't.  Finally I told him to 'walk down the driveway and look at the house number on the letterbox'.  He did.  He was next door (and the neighbours weren't home). LOL

This week I also had a parcel delivered to my door....by the owner of the house it had been left at.  Right suburb, right house number, the street name began with the same letter but the rest of it wasn't my street.  That was a courier delivery.  Thank goodness the homeowner brought the parcel to me.
