'Best match' is no good to me -- I want to see either 'Ending Soonest' (so I can place a vital last-second bid) or 'Newly Listed' so I can grab a great BIN item as quickly as possible.
'Best Match' causes me to miss BOTH of these possibilities. Worst of all, I cannot get rid of Best Match as eBay defaults to it after every time I clear my browser cache.
Anybody LIKE Best Match?? 😄

Nope.
Personally I like Price + Postage Lowest First. 🙂

No I don't like it either....waste of time IMO

I really wonder what the point of 'Best Match' is?
If I do a search for the word CEREAL, how can there even BE a "best match" for that?! All I want to see is either newly listed or ending soon items under that category.
How does eBay dream up counter-productive nonsense like Best Match??

To 'reward' PS/TRS by pushing their items higher in the list than they deserve?
Dunno. I search by P+P - Lowest First. When the system defaults to BM of ending soonest, I just change it. No biggie.
And 'Ending Soonest' is a customisable default option, unlike P+P etc.

BM is based primarily on number of clicks versus number of sales, then "free" postage, then goodness only knows what. If it had anything to do with PS/TRS I should be much higher in the categories than I am.
OP be careful what you wish for as I believe the new Cassini search engine that ebay is due to roll out this year will bring changes, and searching for items will become a nightmare:|

I think rewarding sellers who have a good track record is great. Like Dave said, it's easy to switch it if you don't like it.

I have 100% positive feedback, 4.9+ DSRs across the board, have never had a 1 or a 2 much less a negative, but due to the value of my sales I don't qualify for TRS.
So explain to me, please, how somebody whose volumes qualify them for TRS, but whose feedback and ratings are far inferior to mine should be accorded higher rankings in searches. Is their track record really better than mine?

Yeah, it seems to be more like some kind of half-baked 'reward' for certain sellers... but the fact it, it mucks up sales by making buyers not being able to see and bid on items that are about to end!

't's easy to switch it if you don't like it.'
Yeah, but it reverts to the default again if you clear your cache. And there would be plenty of potential buyers who are confused by it.... I would rather buyers were able to instantly see when my items are about to end so they can promptly bid on them.
I'm sure this Best Match debacle is a large contributor to the general decline of eBay sales in recent years -- along with insane postage hikes, bogus PayPal disputes, etc.
