Buyer Cranky over Postage Fine

We got an angry message from a buyer today who had been charged a fine for underpaid postage on an item they claimed they had bought from us. She even sent a pic of the envelope with the AP fine sticker on it. She wanted us to pay the $2.20 fine she had to pay.

I searched for her userID thru all our selling accounts for the past 90-days and she never showed up anywhere. As far as I could see she had never bought anything from us.

I went back to her pic for a closer look... The pic she sent was a bit fuzzy but I could just make out a return address label in the top left corner of the envelope but the text on it was not readable. We don't put return address labels there. And the postage stamp was not from any batch we have been using recently. So we deduced that she had likely not bought the item from us at all but it sure looked like one of ours tho.

So sent her a reply with don't think you got the item from us. Some time later we got another message... she was all apologetic saying that she had made a mistake and had gotten the same item from another seller. But no other seller has this item as its designed and hand-made by us. Unless someone has copied it exactly that we are unaware of.

The thought crossed our minds that it could have been a cheap scam attempt in the hope that some sellers might just quickly send the $2.20 in order to avoid the RED dot they were not going to get anyway.

Anyone seen or know of scam attempts similar to this?

Never heard of any scam like that before. It doesn't sound particularly lucrative at $2.20 a pop either.

Maybe she just sent the message to you purely by accident, having taken your name from something on her watch list and what she might have actually ordered was soo completely different that it would have been too embarrassing for her to just admit that it was clumsy error. Maybe.

This..If it bothers you ask the buyer if they could sent you a link or item number of previous transactions as you would be interested toi know who is reselling your items out of interest.

I doubt it is a scam for $2,20 especially as they do seem to have an unerpaid sticker

I would not be happy if they asked me that as it is none of their business and why should I give away information about another seller that they have no right to know about. Once you have sold an item you can sell it, frame it or stick it where the sun don't shine as it is your property.

Assuming it was an item that was bought and resold, rather than copied. If the latter, I would say it's very much the OP's business - quite literally.

That particular colour scheme is not too popular and we have not sold one for ages in that colour.

So if it was someone on-selling they must have had it for some time if it was one of ours.

It just does not add up so far. We are a bit puzzled by what happened.
