Buyer Phone Numbers

Here's something I have never really given much thought until I recieved an angry message about privacy from a buyer recently on our selling account...

Are there any rules regarding passing on buyer contact info (mobile numbers/email address) to Australia Post/Couriers for the sole purpose of delivery notifications? The privacy agreement says it is ok judging by this paragraph:

Other eBay users as authorised by you or your use of our Services

When transacting with another user, the other user may request and we may
provide him/her with information about you necessary to complete the
transaction, such as your name, user ID, email address, contact details, postage
and billing address or other information from you needed to promote the
reliability and security of the transaction. If a transaction is held, fails or is later
invalidated, we may also provide the other user with details of the unsuccessful
transaction. The other user receiving your information is not allowed to use this
information for purposes unrelated to the transaction, such as to contact you for
marketing purposes, unless you have expressly consented to it. Contacting
users with unwanted or threatening messages is a violation of our User Agreement.

We have never given it much though, we just import the details provided by the customer directly into eParcel and off they go...

Any thoughts or previous experience?

Cheers,

A

Buyer Phone Numbers

The buyer has probably forgotten when they set up their account that they have put a phone number in delivery details.

Otherwise if they haven't, at checkout they will be asked for a number if a seller has it set up because the seller requires it for their courier company.

Send a message explaining it is the buyers on eBay that have given permission for this to be used at account set up and perhaps also copy n paste the eBay para you have found which they initially agreed to sign.

I would probably also block them from buying again if they were terse in messages.

Buyer Phone Numbers

There is always one in a crowd, we always and only sell to buyers who are phone verified, as we need the phone numbers for the courier delivery services, even as a added safety margin we put the buyers phone number on Australia post satchels as well.
