Buyer claims they have not received one of the items. Advise needed!

A buyer made two seperate transactions on the 9th of August, but over the weekend I received an email from the customer after nearly a month claiming that one of the two items they have not received.

 

I always post multiple items purchased together and I remember sendin both items to the customer. I find it a bit odd that it has taken the customer this long to contact me about the missing item. Am I dealing with a dodgy customer?

 

Any ideas on what I should do or how to respond back to the buyer?

I'm going to do that thing again where I reference something else to try and make a point, but first, I'm going to make a bold statement.

Does someone have to pay for it, yes. 🙂 Does that mean the buyer always pays for it. No. No it doesn't. Free postage is supposed to mean free to the buyer, not that it never cost anyone anything at all. 

 

Here's the bit where I reference something else. Say I sell shirts and ties. Say I sell the shirts for $20 and the ties for $10. Then let's say I offer someone a deal - buy two shirts (for $40) and get a free tie. 

 

Is the tie really free? I mean, the seller had to pay for it, so that means it's not free, right? 

 

Of course the tie was free, in the sense that the buyer doesn't have to pay the price for it.

 

That's what free postage is supposed to mean, despite the fact it's widely accepted here (and elsewhere) that it really means 'postage included'.

 

Now that's out of the way, I have no energy left to address the other absurd comments you made - maybe tomorrow.

please when posters tell ops so much garbage  yes aust post are going to check if a letter was damaged , i think there are too many posters out there that think pigs fly .  maybe know we know who buys the seeds mmmmm

My advice to the OP is not garbage. I've been sending around 100 large letters per week for the last couple of years, enough to have some experience dealing with these kinds of issues serveral times. 

 

I get that you don't understand the full nature of my advice, it's intentionally subtle, but the last thing it is, is garbage.

to amesby   there is only 1 thing you can do ,thats send the buyer another item or give him his money back ,forget what some people say , you can not proove you sent the other item , you have no tracking or signature , ebay will go with the buyer with this. and if you dont want a bad feedback  just  pay and put that down to experience,  just check lots of posts in the last year and unless you have what ebay wants and thats tracking or signature ,toy will  prob loose.   have a nice day

And no guarantee of not getting a neg anyway, especially if they have a similar view of internet purchasing as some who sell stuff that is usually pickup or sent with couriers.

 

OP, it certainly wouldn't hurt to contact the buyer and follow d*g's EXPERIENCED advice.

its simple all my stock have tracking and get to the buyer well under time, then there are sellers who use envelopes  that are made from 60gsm paper, i thought envelopes are for letters paper.  maybe i am a bit harsh to the buyer a month waiting for his parcel could be normal from aus post  lol.
