Hi all, hoping someone can give me a bit of an idea on what to do to cover myself here.
I had someone purchase a dress and then message me asking if I could send it to "such and such name" at "such and such address" instead of their registered address. They also asked me to not include an invoice in the package.
I'm guessing it may be a gift or something and they want it sent straight to the recipient but I'm a little wary because then they could easily claim it hasn't been received.
I was thinking of messaging them back and letting them know that I am happy to do that but then I do not take any responsibility if the parcel is not delivered. I will be sending it as a tracked parcel.
What would you do in this situation?

either way, you have a problem
if you send it to a different address other than the paypal address given in the payment, you are not covered by paypal
if you refund the paypal payment, so that the buyer can change the paypal address, you will get a defect.
I would save the emails in your own account - ebay has a habit of deleting just the ones you need - and send it to the address that the buyer has requested, and hope for the best.
What is the buyer's feedback like?

I just had a look at the buyer's feedback and they seem to be mainly a seller so I had a look at their store and they sell the EXACT SAME dress as I do and they are selling it for double the price. I'm thinking that they ran out of stock and are buying mine to send to their customer but don't want them to know that I sell it cheaper....
But dodgy I think...

I would think that as a seller themselves they ought to know that to ask you in a message to send to an alternate address is against paypal policy. It does kinda smell a bit dodgy.
We have sent to alternate addresses in the past when people say its a gift for my sister or something such. But then again our items are cheaper and we mostly use regular untracked mail, so we get no seller protection anyway.
As said earlier if they have not paid yet get them to change the address during checkout.

Yes, they have already paid, which makes it a bit trickier.
I have sent a message to ebay to ask their advice because I am thinking that whatever I do I am at risk of a defect ๐

don't let them talk you into refunding - that's how I got my two defects

Did you receive the payment notice from payal with the address for delivery before they asked you to send to a different address?
If so, send to the address on the paypal advice and tell the buyer it has been sent already.

Well, they only requested for the invoice with the price to not be included, but with all my packages I send a business card and a little flyer with the address of my ebay store... that doesn't have the price on it so I could still send it with that and if the person I am sending it to happened to read it and visit my store and stumble across the dress that is half the price of the one they bought, well, that's not my fault ๐
