Hi,
I am after some advice. I recently sold my macbook which was in perfectly working condition to someone who is a first time bidder on ebay. He paid cash and picked it up at a mutual location.
He claimed that it worked for one hour after he got home and wouldn't turn back on. He took it to his IT guy and he said it had a battery problem and to take it to Apple. He did this and had to replace the battery which cost him $175. He is looking for me to pay this bill.
I declined saying it was working perfectly fine when I gave it to him and i could not gurantee that he did not do something to it after he took it home.
Now he wants a full refund.
Do I have any grounds to dispute this or refuse his refund?
Thanks

Thanks for the response. That is what I was hoping.
I really want to help him but truthfully I think if he wanted new he should have bought new.

It was working when they paid on collection, they had the opportunity to test before paying and was happy to pay for the item so it was tested by them (assumption??). 2nd hand computers can be a can of worms for both buyer and seller. Neither side knows the other person so there is a t of trust.
You do not know if the buyer has swapped the battery for a non working one since purchase to try and get some of his money back.
They may not have paid via PayPal (so no charge back there) but they can open a dispute with ebay and get money back and your selling account will be charged accordiungly if they win the case.

Lizzy, there's no protection for the buyer with a pick up and they paid cash.
So, no, they can't open a case

This seems to be typical of buyers now. After buying a pre-owned Apple Laptop at such a good price and only needing a $175 battery replacement ....... I wished I had bought it myself !!!

I have been advised otherwise by Ebay themselves.

No cover for pick up items.
Certainly can't claim when they've made repairs to item - it's not in the same
condition as when they bought it. Who knows what else they did to it?
Nope - no claim
