I have just sold an item, postage was clearly stated on the ad and is actual postage costs.
This postage covers satchel with signature, and tracking.
Buyer has not paid yet, but wants me to send cheaper - they have told ME the postage cost they will pay. Doesn't want signature.
I have said no - now no payment.
Am I in the right or not?

Short answer....yes, you are in the right.
Stand your ground and don't cancel if the buyer requests it.
Make sure they get an unpaid ite strike.....they will not be able to leave a negative feedback.

You are 110% in the right
They were very well aware of what the postage cost was before they chose to bid/buy
In my opinon , IF they were all above board, they would have messaged you before buying an asked if that was alright with you (even then it would be 100% up to you)
The fact they buy and then demand 'cheaper' postage with no tracking or signature is very suss (as I said just in my opinion)
I sure as heck would not be risking it

Looks like it's the Grosby kids boots.
The buyer wants to quibble over a couple of dollars when they are getting a good product at a great price.
If they don't pay within 4 days, open an unpaid item case within the minute and don't communicate with them any more.
Close the unpaid to the minute and add them to your BBL.
Sheesh, some people.

Will end in disaster if sent untracked.
Good odds that the item will somehow go "missing" in transit and you'll be on the hook.
Just let the non-payment time out and put them on your BBL.
I wouldn't even send them another message.
If they pay, I would cancel it with any of the drop down option of "Problem with Buyer Address" as I can guarantee they will find something wrong on receipt of the item.
By the way, you don't need a signature if the item is under $750, so tracking should be more than enough.
I never add signature to my items regardless as many people are not at home during the day and will have to make an effort to go the PO to pick up. I prefer things to be easy as possible for buyers and no signature will definitely make postage cheaper.

I see $9.40 postage if it is the boots which is cheap if it includes signature.
How much do they want to pay?

No signature & no tracking = "I never received the parcel- thanks for the free items, sucker!"

You're in the right.
The buyer is being a bit cheeky to buy and then after that, try to dictate terms, saying what HE is prepared to pay.
Our only experience with someone exactly like that, who whinged about the postage cost and told us what she thought it should be, ended badly, with her finding fault after she got the item but surprise, surprise, she was willing to keep it as long as we paid partial compensation for her disappointment. And that reimbursement pretty much amounted to the discount she had initially demanded in postage. If we had our time over again, we wouldn't sell to her, we should have cancelled that sale.
You don't need that particular sale, you'll find another buyer

You're definitely in the right, BUT...
...as a buyer it's a bit of a bugbear of mine when eBay sellers force the purchase of extra postage services that don't serve any real purpose. Sometimes it's express delivery (I live outside the Aus. Post guaranteed next-day delivery zone, so express is wasted on me), and the other one is Signature on Delivery.
Unless it's an expensive item, SOD is kind of pointless as satchels all have tracking numbers these days anyway, and that's what eBay's system looks for to consider an item delivered for transaction completion purposes.
YES, you're within your rights to stand your ground as your proposed postage cost is specified in the listing, but if SOD serves no real purpose in this instance why no consider dropping it for this sale? First check the buyer's feedback for any signs of trouble of course.
I realise your post is from 7 days ago and this situation likely resolved one way or another now, but couldn't ignore an opportunity to voice my anti-SOD views!

buyer is trying to scam you report them to the Australian Cybercrime Online Reporting Network (ACORN) - they probably try this on for many different sellers using paypal as a carriage service for online fraud - never got my item, tracking says delivered but i never got it-lodges claim with paypal-gets money back, keeps item. Quite a few buyers have tried to scam me on gumtree using this old trick and paypal-the ones that push the hardest for paypal are the worst scammers
