I am trying to set up a seller account and list an item. When I get to part to phone verification process I type in my HOME phone number and get a response of "We were not able to verify the phone number you provided please try again" which I do and keep getting the same response. I have tried to choose the other verification options by clicking the link but it just keeps taking me back to the same page and there are no other options such as email or text message. My phone number is correct and I am am adding in the correct area code before it.
Can anyone advise what the problem could be. I have already given my Visa card number and have linked my account with my Paypal account thinking that might be the glitch but this hasnt worked either.

Make sure your'e signed into ebay.com.AU when you add your phone number. ebay also has a number of glitches with certain progs not working correctly due to cookie/tracking resolution issues lately. Sign out, clear your cache/history/cookies, sign back in to the au site and retry- hope this works.

Is the phone number you are entering the same as the number already registered with eBay, and does the form have separate fields for area code / phone number?
Unless it's occuring during an attempt to create a listing, you may be able to bypass the problem by clicking "Start Selling Now", going through the item listing etc, and when it requests that you put an automatic payment method on file, choose PayPal or credit card - this generally tends to verify accounts without phone verification as a requirement. (You can save the listing you create for later so it doesn't start after midnight tonight, just keep in mind that you can only save one at a time and starting a new listing will delete the one already saved).

Or you could just ring ebay if the above dosent work, click on customer support up the top right and scroll down to their phone number.

Though I have never sold on eBay, I have had similar problems with different online account with different companies.... It all came down to the browser was using.
Chrome and Firefox were the worst with one company however Safari can sometimes be a bit of a pain on another one.
My suggestion is to try a different browser and see how it goes
