CENSORSHIP - EBAY THE MORAL POLICE?

just got a listing removed for selling a box of drama dvds as one was for the Aussie movie snowtown, which i bought at J.B.s or target.

ebay has a new policy about serial killers or any thing that may cause offence / pain to any victims familys or race. the policy also covers violence.

was put through to a manager and when i asked if Van-damme or Bruce Willis movies would be removed, she said they are under review.

i also asked if war movies like Tora, Tora, Tora would be removed or any war documentary or those on the holocaust - since they would show victims as well. no answer.

if our Government has rated a movie and if it can be bought at any shop why can ebay override it. thought ebay was a venue not the judge on our lives.

wonder if they will ban all those violent computer games.

think i might make myself feel better with a good old book burning.

Welll...there goes the good book

Better be removing all those copies of the bible as well

...crikey there is some "knewing", "begatting", flogging, racial and religious discrimination and general shenanigans in that read 😐

....I guess they might get away with it as the ban appears to be only for the books/dvds that are based on true life events rather than gossip and fairy tales.... ;\

Biblical Pornography

"Yet she multiplied her whoredoms, in calling to remembrance the days of her youth, wherein she had played the harlot in the land of Egypt. For she doted upon their paramours, whose flesh is as the flesh of asses, and whose issue is like the issue of horses."

Ezekiel 23 19-21

and lusted after her paramours there, whose members were like those of donkeys, and whose emission was like that of stallions."

Ezekiel 23:21 NRSV

Death To Adulterers

"And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death. And the man that lieth with his father's wife hath uncovered his father's nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them."

Leviticus 20:10-11

I guess they could just blank some bits out

Where does one list the bible, fiction or non fiction?

Either way, you risk being reported for listing in the wrong category.

When you joined ebay you agreed to their terms and conditions one of which is that they are the only arbiter of what they choose to allow on THEIR site. Nothing to do with Government ratings or anything else. If they decided that no DVDs with the word love in the title could be listed then you would not be allowed to list it.

so if the coca-cola company deceided as a company policy to only sell to white buisness owners that would be okay. keep forgetting how much some of you worship ebay.

There is perhaps a fine line sometimes between discrimination and the attempt to uphold certain community morals and values, which is (in part) why we have laws that (attempt) to clearly define which is which. Your coca-cola example is discrimination, and while eBay's action to remove the DVD listing could be construed as discrimination against the OP, based purely on the fact that their listing was removed and many others remain, the reason for removal doesn't (AFAIK) constitute discrimination, and the posts referring to eBay's policies are IMHO intended to put the situation in a more practical perspective than a personalised / victimised one.

That is to say, an independent company (eBay) has reserved the right to remove certain types of material that could be deemed offensive - all the information is here: http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/policies/offensive.html (click on 'Some examples for a comprehensive explanation of the policy).

I suspect that while the first line is (emphasis mine) "eBay has always exercised judgement in allowing or disallowing certain listings consistent with the spirit of a worldwide community.", it's more often left to that community to decide what's offensive. (In other words, it's possible the listing was reported for containing offensive material, and eBay removed it automatically without exercising said judgement. It's not fair, particularly as such a system can be abused, but the options to do something about it are limited).

sorry dg should have given you the media release -

due to down sizing of the company, the rising costs of electricity and fuel, with the saddest of hearts we will only be able to supply our product to those in certain demographical areas.

Well, when you put it like that, it's "perfectly understandable" (i.e. covers their hide, just like eBay's policy does 😉 ).
