I found my cheapo camera washed out red and green photos so I just switched to my i-phone with procamera app - for the life of me I can not work out why all other colors, including pale green and stronger blue tones, photograph fairly close to actual - with a little tone variation from time to time, but when taking photos of brighter greens they wash out completely.
Tried to remedy through software inlcuindg paint etc but cannot produce anything remotely close to strong green color. It happens whether pics taken in daylight or with lighting set up (3 x umbrella lighting with white backdrop)
I have a pile of green items building up here that I want to list ......
Why does this happen with stronger greens only and Is there anything I can do in my phone app settings to compensate for the green wash out ?

Sorry, I use a scanner. Which usually renders colours correctly. Unless they are inlaid gold, then they come up 'interesting'.

Not a camera buff, but until one comes along...
Possibly white balance and/or over exposed. Do you have different setting for different lighting (eg an indoors, outdoors etc?) Sometimes with my point n shoot, I'd get better results on the 'Sport' setting, as it typically underexposed still shots indoors, but some colours just worked better that way and I could do some adjusting afterwards.
Photo Filtre (free image editing software) is quite good at adjusting colour balance - I used to use it a lot as no matter what I did, I could never get beige to show up right.

Thanks DG - I do have a white balance option that I have tinkered with, but I am quite clueless as to what I should be setting it at ?
I will give Photo Filtre a shot though thanks heaps ....

They are all washed out except is take a real close up fabric only.. would appreciate your feedback to resolvoe this annoying problem

I tend to manipulate the images more so than the settings on my camera, as a lot of them are a bit beyond me and my visualisation skills (I'll usually just try to get shots in a relative bright, cool light, then edit after, as I found warm light affected colours much worse and was harder to adjust), so I'm not much help with that unfortunately.

I take all my photos in the same light in the same place with the same camera with the same settings and one day it will be purple that doesn't show true, another day it will be red and another green, I have given up and just edit them as best I can. I usually end up with a pretty accurate rendition, at least on my monitor!

i covered this issue in my photgraphy course but all my notes are at work grrrrr.
Try setting the iso to 400 use daylight setting and live view. In live view manally stop up or down until you get a true colour showing.
However this is for DSLR's I cant remember what to do for point and clicks but there is something and I have it written in my notes....at work

Just taken Photo Filtre for a spin, yes it sure does seem to have very good capability to adjust colour balance, just did a pic and first go got closer to actual color than ever before, so thats something. Hopefully when I get a bit more familiar with the various adjust funcitions, I can get the color closer still.
Thanks again for this tip DG.
Chuck, very happy to wait until you can access your notes, and will be grateful for any tip that you can share that will assist in photographing this color ...
