Hi
I had a buyer purchase an item for just under $4. They have sent me a message saying 'Please cancel my purchase. I dont want this anymore'.
If I cancel will I get a defect against my name? I really don't want to go through an UID for a few cents and possibly have them pay and leave a negative.
They have only left 5 feedback and one of those was a neg.

Thanks - I have sent the buyer a message too. It seems they have 7 days to agree to the cancellation - that seems like a long time given that they requested the cancellation.

If the buyer agrees, it will close straight away (which they should). If after 7 days the buyer has not answered it you can close it and you will receive your fees back. The only problem you have is if the buyer disagrees to it then you won't get you fees back from the sale.
The other thing to consider is, with a cancellation the buyer can still leave a neg I believe, opposed to if you file an UID and they don't pay they can't leave a neg.

Hello Margaret, Thanks for writing about defects on cancelled transactions. I understand the confusion. Margaret, first, please know that transactions prior to May 1, 2014 will not count against your defect. It may be reflected in your dashboard but it will not count when evaluating your performance. Not all cancelled transactions will count against you especially if it's not your fault or it's the buyer requesting for the cancellation. Unfortunately at the moment, it's only sellers who can initiate cancellation of the sale. I understand that I have received a defect because of a cancelled transaction back in March 2014. I think it was for some cutlery which the purchaser no longer wanted to purchase. I cancelled this because the purchaser no longer wanted to complete the sale and they requested that I instigate a cancellation, which I did. I have done this on a number of occasions and not received a defect. Now in future am I not able to ever instigate a cancellation of a sale without receiving a defect? Is a purchaser able to instigate a cancellation, or would they always need me to start the process? I am confused. Please help. Kind regards Margaret
