Just wondering if anyone else has come across this scenario. I got a message about an item I had listed, claiming it had not been received, supposedly purchased August 16. This is an item that had NOT been sold and still had some days to go till sales end. I had never sold anyhing to this person, not ever. Feedback of 12 (one feedback received in the last 12 months) So I thought, OK, Newbie who has me confused with someone else, probably doesn't know how to access the "purchased items" page. I then looked up the sold listings for the item and found only one for August 14, however, different buyer, who had received their item and left feedback for the Seller. I then sent a very polite message to the person, explaining everything to them, and also explaining how to check their purchased items and find their Seller. I also mentioned that I found it strange that I could not locate the item in eBays sold listings.
Since then, total silence, no apology, no thankyou, nothing. I felt a little annoyed, so sent another message saying that I would like a reply . Deathly silence from them. Just wondering is this a pathetic attempt at a scam? by someone who doesn't have a clue that it would never work. I would really like to hear your opinions on this. Shoulld I report this to Ebay? Anyhow, they are now on my blocked list, in case they decide to buy my item after all, because I would expect them to claim it didn't arrive.
Solved! Go to Solution.

I occasionally get messages from buyers who have bought from me but confused their purchase from me with purchases from another seller, or so they say after I have pointed out certain facts, but I have also heard of sellers receiving messages like that from "buyers", claiming they'll report them to all sorts of different authorities if they don't get their non-purchased item, and that one is a fairly typical and known scam - they can come through eBay messages, or directly to an email address.
Sometimes buyers just don't reply out of embarassment (or so I presume), a couple of notable ones in recent memory.... Buyer sent me a very scathing message because they somehow got the mistaken impression I had charged their PayPal account an additional amount to the purchase total and entered the extra charge as GST (impossible to do, and don't really understand how their invoice would have indicated anything other than the actual total, but...), I replied politely and explained my position - the only reply I ever got from them was same message forwarded twice more; I replied to one of them, referencing my earlier reply, and I never heard anything else. Another one opened a request claiming items were missing from their order - items they never purchased from me, and they mentioned items I don't even sell. I sent them a message that pretty much just asked "what the?" (in a most polite and professional way), they closed the case but without so much of an 'oops'.
