I live in the bush and buy all my clothes on ebay. Increasingly I have been buying from the US ebay. Why? Because aussie sellers can't be bothered to put any details on their listings (pat on the back to those who do, you are in the minority). I'm a tall woman so pants inseams are essential. Measurements are essential, we can't just pop down to the shops to try on various brands. Lots of listings have no details at all, useless! Some listings have a mass of "buyer rules" but no details on their items! I've given up sending messages asking for basic information, too painful, and many sellers don't even bother to reply. Oh and by the way, new without tags does not mean "only worn once or twice". I've received clothes that should be car wash rags with a tags put on with a safety pins (not even the same brand). There is more competition in the US so sellers have to put all the details on their listings. Come on aussie sellers, make your listings count and get those sales, my backspace key is wearing out!

You want to make it easy for the buyers to buy. You say you have well known brands that are constant in sizing well that may be so BUT what if a new buyer has never had any of these brands.
There is a seller here that sells well known brand items but they do vary in size depending on fit. Now I would happily buy bulk from her (over $200 in one hit) but she cant be bothered listing the measurements. The seller has hundreds of listings, if she had measurements' in the clothing I wouldn't have to email her on the 20 or so items I was at the time interested in- I gave up and not don't buy from her at all.
I emailed her and told her but she had no interest. I need key information.
We buyers needs measurements'!!!!

I have sold clothing, (mostly vintage and retro) for nearly 9 years. I have always put measurements on my listings. It also covers me for those wanting to return items that don't fit, when they clearly haven't read the full description. Unfortunately due to eBay increased fees and a significant drop in sales over the last 5 months, I am considering closing down or at the very least significantly reducing what I list. Up until November 2012 I had over 1000 listings in my store, now there is around 200.

I often look on ebay to buy more of the same I bought in a B&M, so really only need the brand and size.
Its the same with shoes, I only want another pair in a style I already own so only want the brand and size.
I do not normally buy shoes without trying them but did once and got burnt that way; thinking that well known brand will be consistent in their sizing; well, not always. I take shoes size 39, had a pair in 39 of particular brand, bought another pair 39 of very similar style, but it was more like 41!!! But the problem could have been avoided if I asked for measurements - or if the seller had them in the listing.
And clothing is even more likely to be sized wrongly; all you need is somebody grabbing the wrong label and sewing it into it.

there is another reason why a lot of sellers don't put sizes on. I sell shoes I don't measure them all but I am an Aussie seller and have been in the shoe business for 15+ years. I don't put anything on that is not a generous size fitting. and I know the fittings as I have retail store to so items are trialled and tried on. if the sizes are small then I measure and and state if they are a large or small fitting and I have to tell you that a lot of the time it is a waste as buyers don't take notice. measuring shoes is a nightmare as it is not ok to just measure the sole you have to measure the insole and some times you cant fit your hand in you cant tell if the tape measure is bunching. and don't get me started on pull on boots. if a customer asks then I will deffinetly take the time to measure. I have a work pants for ladies and the measurements are there and you don't know how many times I get asked what are the measurements. I always take the time to help with any questions, customers send me cut outs of there childrens feet and their feet because measuring your feet will not guarantee wether the shoe is going to fit. there are so many things to take into account. the other thing is any measurement can only be approx. as there are so many factors. in my opinion ask the questions and the sellers who want your business will respond. I do understand the frustration but there is also seller frustration

Accurate measurement of the outside with as accurate as possible from inside would help. tape will not be bunching if you use flexible metal tradesmen's tape; I have a little one about 1m long and narrow enough to go right inside pointy shoes ๐

I have been listing clothing and apart from bras and panties, i use measurements. I must be really dumb because it takes me forever to do.
I spend a good 10 minutes on a piece of clothing, but most of that is me rechecking myself because i don't really have a clue what i am doing.
