Disappointed I can't search most bids on completed listings!

I used this a lot to gauge what a fair price was to put on listings, now I have to guess.

If I guess wrong I waste a free listing for the month.

Why fix something that isn't broke?

Surely sale price would be a better gauge? That has to be more indicative than the number of bids.

eg 1 bid for $10.00 vs 7 bids ending at $7.50.

The number of bids doesn't necessarily translate into what the item is worth, nor does it show BIN items. All number of bids really shows is how many people were interested.

They don't have the sale price as an option, that is why I used 'most bids' it bought the items sold to the top and I would check from there.

It was really handy in gauging the market price.

Yeah, I used to use that too for the same reason. It was a quick way of finding the sale price for things that did sell, as the results were at the top.

Maybe all of these things are "old fogie" type situations, where the people who sign up to eBay after the changes will not know the difference and just be happy with whatever eBay is doing at the present time. However, the people who have been on eBay before the changes will complain and not like the "new fangled" changes. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Like you said though, if it ain't broke... but in eBay's mind, obviously it was broke compared to what they have planned for the future. Whatever it is.

I used that sort order a lot too. :_| It did show BIN items, btw. One purchase from a BIN listing = 1 bid, so in a highest number of bids sort order, an ended BIN listing that had sold 200 would be at the top with (effectively) 200 bids, so it was really handy for sorting out what was popular, and getting a gauge on prices for things I want to list as BIN but have no real clue as to what market value may be.

It's a function I used all the time,so not happy that it's gone,X-(

Another nail in the coffin for auctions maybe?

Looks they are only concerned with final high prices.

Even if that's achieved by someone putting in one bid for a high priced item that might sell once in the ten times that it's listed.

It's obviously more important to them then an item that sells every time for a lower price but with twenty plus bids,(thereby actually gaining them more money).

From my searchings of completed listings they seemed to have reduced the number of sold OR unsold items at any given time.

There seems to be a lot less in the completed listings period !

Is this because they quickly move them to yet another of their sites where you have to pay {AGAIN} to see the realised prices...think it's called Worthpoint...pretty sure ebay own that or have something to do with it.........

or is it because people are sick of paying to list only to find 5 minutes after their listing shows in the listings it then VANISHES just as quickly from view.

I found this yesterday, I listed 2 lots of vintage wallpaper, every time I did a search on it only ONE lot appeared.

What I kept doing was going into my VIEW SELLERS OTHER ITEMS & clicked on the 39.00 rolls [which were the ones not showing in the wallpaper page] - I just kept going into that listing - then I clicked on the CATEGORY my listing was in  to see if it actually appeared after being IN my listing.

Sure enough it would show up.

10 minutes later I would do a general search in the common search bar for 'vintage wallpaper'...sure enough only one would show up [they were listed one after the other & that is how they appeared when they DID show up].

I did this about 7 times, the 2nd lot vanished 6 of those times, but they seem to appear TO ME when I search now.

If you just view my Sellers Other Items of course you will see the 2nd lot, but if you search Home & Garden > Building > DIY > Wallpaper I bet you only find ONE lot listed again.

Perhaps too many people are  a wake up to this & feel they are actually being robbed by ebay ????????

Not getting what they actually PAID FOR.

Yes, good point. I wouldn't be surprised to see a new search feature added that only targets completed BIN items that sold. eBay realises (and rightfully too) that BIN listings are the extreme vast majority of listings on eBay. You might find someone who does auctions and lists 10 things a week (40 a month or so) but for every one of those people, you have a store owner who just does BINs and has hundreds of items (or sales) per month. Simply, store owners are where the money is for eBay and BIN is what store owners use - by a vast majority.

It will be interesting to see where the "auctioners" go if eBay gets rid of all the auctions. There's no real equivalent that I can think of, unless eBay creates a separate area just for auctions, kind of like its own auction house.

I always thought the auction was what buyers liked to be honest, a chance to pick up something at a bargain price.

I gave away my store just before they made the prices ridiculous, which I mainly had BIN, I wasn't making enough then to justify $24.95.

Switching back to auction has been a bit weird, that is why I miss the 'most bids' feature in completed listings, I want to at least make my money back on my stuff but if I put too high a price on it I am wasting my time.  And my 30 free listings.

It may take some skillful back-and-forth between accounts, but you could try opening up another selling account and make use of the 10-day BINs that come with the free 30 day listings. That equals 30 free listings with 10 listings or thereabouts being relisted over a 10 day period, 3 times a month. Of course, it's only a theory as I've never tried it but it might be worth it.
