Disgruntled Buyer

On the basis of the below email trail - will I have any drama removing negative, neutral of false positive feedback from this unhappy buyer?

I am very upset the LEGO is such a small box. I bought it because of the marine figurines. For $31 I can easily get something four times your box size. I just feel your advertised picture is a misrepresentation and I would not

Have bought it if I knew the actual size. This is very bad.

Sorry to hear that you are upset with your purchase.

As per my listing - I offer refund of purchase price for up to 30days after sale.

If you are seeking a refund please lodge a request through the eBay dispute process.

This item will need to be put back in the bubblewrap, sealed back in the plastic bag and posted in a box with auspost tracking.

Once I have received this unopened set back, as per eBay’s dispute policy I will refund your purchase price.

Regards

Too much of a hassle. Consider it as a costly learning

Experience. Big W selling for $10/-. 😂

I think it depends on whether they leave feedback and if they do, exactly what they say.

I don't think too many buyers would leave a totally false positive as such as they have the choice of neutral or negative for those. Occasionally you will see buyers who post what I'd call a qualified positive eg nice item but a bit smaller than I expected.

Other potential buyers who do bother to check feedback will probably be more likely to zero in on negs or neutrals so a positive like that I would not see as a huge problem.

I think when you are taking photos of these lego boxes, it would be worth your while adding an extra photo, maybe of the box next to eg a 50c coin, just so people can get some size perspective.

I've seen a lot of feedback before on other people's various items, where the buyers have commented that the things they bought were smaller than expected & in most cases, when out of curiosity I checked the ads, the sellers had put no measurements in the ad or no markers in the photos to help people get that size perspective.

If you had included the approximate box measurements, I think you would stand a good chance of having any neg feedback based just on the size being removed. But without measurements or some sort of marker, I do think you risk the occasional disappointed buyer who might get a very small box when thinking it was more a medium size.

You handled it well and I don't think you will see any feedback at all. Smiley Wink

I agree with kopenhagen, but would just like to add that perhaps it might be worthwhile considering your own feedback leaving procedure.

I found the item I think you are referring to . . . . . and I see that you have left feedback for the buyer already.

It might be worth waiting until a buyer lets you know the item has arrived and everything is ok, or wait until the buyer leaves you feeback first.

Do you now think that “Great eBayer - thank you” sums up this buyer?

k1ooo-slr-sales - what you say does make sense.

My feedback if written now would be a wee bit different.

That said my preference is still to give feedback once once I've been paid and gotten any outstanding info from the buyer.

And this champion is being added to my BBL.

BigW no longer has it, Target sold it for $12 in 2017 and Amazon has it for in excess of $200.

I think he got it for a very good price.....one of the cheapest on ebay and was not going to send it back for fear of not getting it any cheaper.  Anything for a whinge.

I always found it useful to add box size and Lego piece count in descriptions to avoid this type of problem. Also if it was a collectable set I would add that the price does not reflect the Lego set size but it's collectability.

and I respect every seller’s right to decide if or when they leave feedback for buyers.  But I have seen many examples here on the boards where sellers leave the “excellent ebayer, prompt payment” type of feedback only to find they have sold to the buyer from hell.

When I was selling I too left feedback after a buyer paid, BUT, I haven’t sold much since PayPal went to 180 day claims and the eBay MBG came in.

I will sell again soon, but my practices will be different to when I have sold previously.

I leave feedback once I post. Buyer feedback is essentially meaningless, being a count of what they've bought that sellers left feedback for. I have never had a neg, one INR and and no SNADs, so that could well colour my perceptions.

Feedback that might be appropriate (for sellers who like to leave it as soon as the buyer has paid, or as soon as the item has been sent):

Thank you for your payment. Your item has been despatched.

 or

Payment received. We hope you enjoy your item.

Something like that would at least avoid the pitfalls of "Awesome buyer!" or "Best buyer on eBay!" etc. in feedback left for someone who turns out to be an axe-wielding profanity-uttering shouty stalker who breaks into your house post-sale to leave petrified elk faeces in your bathroom.
