As a customer in the eBay market place and a PayPal account holder for the same amount of time (many years) and with the prices/transaction totals always seem to be less than whole dollars amount, what about a rounding-up for fund raising charity policy.
I feel the few cents from each transaction and the choice to do this could alleviate a cash shortage in funding available to charities.
I know of at least one website marketplace that gives this choice and tens of thousands $ are raised. I round up every time I purchase from that site, but I don't know if I am (allowed) to advertise this site here; even though they are also in the eBay marketplace.
If eBay or PayPal have this policy I have not seen it on the pages.
I realise eBay.com abides in different countries, but most countries have their own version of well known worldwide charities.
So, what does the board and community think about this?
Thanks for the opportunity to put the question/motion,
June

Why not make direct donations to the charity of your choice?
I prefer to make donations to charities I have chosen and support.....They would also be tax deductible
Round up every transaction.... no thanks.

June it's makes sense to have that option.
You have probably noticed in checkout the options to support varies charities at point of purchase through PayPal.
And to have one for rounding up makes sense.

You may like to look at a site that some of us are involved in and started a team within it from the ebay community forum.
Here is a thread in community spirit that was started for kiva loans.
I mention it as it's an easy, fun way to help those that don't have what we have.

Hi siggie,
Thank you for reading my first post in this community AND for joining the discussion.

I wasn't referring to major donations to (in Australia $2 or more qualifies for Tax deduction).

Rounding up at the end sale/check-out means to the next nearest $/dollar and when you consider that it could from 1c to 99c, the latter would be VERY unusual!
Please check out www.OO.com for a true look at how it works and how the donation Round-Up of a few cents raises a huge amount every year.
I just thought with the size of eBay the scheme would be just as useful in the world,

The more hands donations go through..... the less a charity receives..... direct contributions, and knowing who receives
them is important to me....the percentage of donations that actually go to the cause, can be extremely low.

".Analysis of the performance of 15 well-known charities shows some are spending up to 40ยข in every donated dollar on fund-raising,
while others are spending less than 5ยข.But there are few guidelines in a sector facing significant uncertainty as the Coalition
dismantles the former government's Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission, which was intended to be a charities
watchdog, in favour of a ''centre for excellence''.The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Australia received more than $12.8 million in
donations last year but spent $5.2 million, or 41ยข in the dollar, on fund-raising, marketing and communications. After other expenses,
only 54ยข in the donated dollar went to granting the wishes of sick children."

i'm with siggie,i prefer that my money go where i know for sure it's going to be used to the fullest benefit. and every penny counts.
that extra change goes in a jug here,or a separate part of my PP account( in my files),and it DOES go to charity, but i choose where.
