Ebay Australia v Ebay US Fees

Is it just me or does it seem ridiculous that the American ebay has a far better fee structure for store subscribers compared with Australia.

http://pages.ebay.com/sellerinformation/stores/Subscriptions.html

In the category I sell I would only pay approx. 3.22% in the US and here I pay 8.5% with the store I have.

Even with the difference in policies etc. between different sites, that difference in fees is HUGE and seems unreasonable. The US also has the top seller plus which gives you a further discount on fees. Should there not be something similar introduced here?

Guess this is more a rant than anything but would love to see a change here too.

How about the size of the buying market?

Population of USA is approx. 320 million

Population of Australia is approx. 24 million.

Do ya see where this is going?

I think if they charged the same as USA they wouldn't make the profits they want.

You could always sell on ebay.com

I think that makes the OPs point so EBAy can make the profit they want they charge us more. Population should make 0 difference each fee is paid on 1 sale that is the same no matter where you are in the world. Also charging higher fees does not means a bigger profit as it decreases the profit a seller makes and makes it less profitable to sell on Ebay so that will mean less sellers in Australia.

ebay in usa probably has 320 times the number of sellers so their profit will be substancial.

Do you think a little village shop can sell things for the same price as a shop in the middle of large city?

Of course not, the large shop has a higher turnover so can afford to buy in larger amounts reducing the individual cost.

Same with the little village of Aus Ebay and the large city of US Ebay.

I think some countries have lesser fees with lower populations.

All they would have to pay for is some lawyers, servers, a few programmers (going by the state of the website), advertising, someone to write up the policies, fees, who knows.

I think the costs are mostly based on population (or users), different countries would be more costly to enter into I guess.

Their yearly stock report might give a breakdown of costs for each country (probably not though). The year they entered into Australia might give a projection of profits/costs

eBay has a lot more competition in the US than they do in Aus - I actually think that has more to do with it than anything else.

Some of their competition is specialist and cheaper, some of it is general and more expensive (but actually has higher traffic), so sellers over there have more choice between sites, as well as a wider range of options to suit.

So they can charge whatever they like?

Yes, they can, as it's their company. The wages are much higher here in Aus than they are in the US, so that could play a part too. In a lot of industries we get paid double, or more, than what they do. A few of theirs are higher, but more aren't.
