Ebay Selling Restrictions for new users

Hi guys,

I'm new to the ebay world thus have been reading up as much as I can around here but I've still got a couple of questions. Hope you can help me out .

1. When I sold my first 2 items .. I was so pumped!! decided to create an ebay store to enhance my experience. Anyways, I was fine with the Ebay limits .. 100 items sold or $7500 in sales was perfectly reasonable for me at this stage but I've just realised it's only $7500 listed!!!

Since most of my inventory  is over $100, I can barely list 30 items now and I'll be lucky to sell a quarter of that limit. I've had to take down some of my more expensive and unique items just to get some extra listings in. Should I bother calling Ebay and asking for a listing dollar raise (I won't sell anywhere near 100 items btw) or will I be wasting my time?

2. Obviously the 0.4% savings in final value fee isn't worth the basic store subscription fee since I can only list about 30 items. I plan on cancelling the subscription for the next 3 months, will I lose all my store data or will it be just the way it was?

Ebay has been great for passing time so I plan on posting around here more often. Got my first DSR's today which was exciting! Knew I'd get killed on item description but pretty annoyed I didn't get 5s on postage and comms Smiley Frustrated I predict I'll be listing less than 10 items when it gets to the last week of this month due to seller restrictions though .. ugh!!

Re: Ebay Selling Restrictions for new users

eBay will raise your limits after you've earned something of a track record, or sometimes on request (there's a link to request higher selling limits on the basic sell page). I think after I'd received around 30 positive FB for selling on this ID, I was automatically upgraded to 150 items / $11 300 for the selling limits. I never requested the limit be raised, and I only sell low-value items, so it may vary from member to member.

Using the 40 free listings may be the way to go until your limits are raised, but keep in mind the FVF break can be more than 0.04%, depending on the category and price of items. With a basic store, FVF is 8% except in media, fashion (inc. jewellery & accessories), crafts / collectibles etc, which are the higher 9.~%, and can be 6% for some tech categories if the item is over $200.

DSRs are relatively important, and can have quite an impact on your capacity to sell, so although the sample is only from 10 ratings, I would take the opportunity to re-evaluate your descriptions and try to look for any areas where they can be improved, as a low rating can see you restricted from selling completely, sometimes permanently.

Not all buyers will give what the average person may consider to be a "fair" rating, but if you can take any measures to avoid any unhappy misunderstandings etc, then it's a good idea to do so. 😉

Re: Ebay Selling Restrictions for new users

I doubt if you will get any increase in listings until you have become well established with a considerable amount of feedback, especially if you are selling high value items. As Windows software is often counterfeit you may be asked for proof by way of receipts, invoices etc that you have purchased them from an authorised reseller even if you do not ask for an increase.

Your shop settings will be saved, not the listings though. I close my store for half the year and when I reopen (in about 3 weeks) all I will have to do is upload my listings.

Your return policies look as if they took you a while but unfortunatey only apply to change of mind, if something is DOA, defective or the wrong item all a buyer has to do in the 1st 45 days is open a Paypal dispute, they will not have to jump through most of your hoops I am afraid and will most certainly not have to accept a repair. If software turns out to be faulty then again it will be up to Paypal if you have to refund or not, you cannot say if cannot be returned! Also keep in mind that if they fund their payment with a credit card, and I certainly would for most of your items, a chargeback can be initiated long after the 45 day limit for Paypal disputes.
