I just got an email from eBay explaining that they:
'took the following actions to benefit your seller performance record:
-Removed low detailed seller ratings
-Item as described: 1
-Communication: 1
Note that these removals were the result of patterns identified by eBay's
detection systems and/or cumulative reports from you and other sellers.
They may be related to transactions that occurred any time over the past
several months.
We excluded low detailed seller ratings or cases you got during this
evaluation period simply because they were left by too few buyers.'
I must admit, this is nice. But it does make me wonder who gave me those DSRs, and why they would give me positive feedback if there was such a problem?
Anyone know how to tell who leaves what DSRs? I know it's supposed to be anonymous, but there might be some trick to it.

I don't like to dampen your enthusiasm, however it's more than likely the low DSR's you had have dropped off themselves; they were probably left before the current three month evaluation period. I received an email, not unlike yours, where ebay was patting itself on the back because they had removed a negative and the associated DSR's. Ummmmmm, the truth was I rang ebay and demanded the feedback and the DSR's be removed; the buyer had asked for a mutual cancellation (which I willingly issued) and he just ignored it. Several weeks later he was able to leave a neg and 1's across the boardX-( I believe if I hadn't phoned I'd still be wearing it:|
There is a complicated and very time consuming way that might be relatively accurate; you run reports for an item or a category (it must have at least 10 feedback left in the time period you chose). I don't bother with it because you can't change it, and if you have an unhappy buyer he/she is very unlikely to purchase from you again:-)

Kustom, Ebay has been sending us message like that since the DRS's begun.
However, when we compare with the DSR's at each time we get such messages - there is no difference!
The only ones that we KNOW that are removed are the ones when the buyer says in f/back: "very happy, fantastic seller, beautiful dress" and leaves 1 star for everything.
As they can't be both happy and unhappy at the same time for the same item - that is a conflicting evaluation and the stars are removed.

Just got one of these now and came to the boards to ask about it.
Not that I remember exactly what they looked like, but I don't see a difference in DSRs. And I would not have noticed if it happened a while ago.
Not sure what to make out of it ?:|

Maybe the buyer hastily clicks 1 thinking that's the best rating? Nah, doesn't seem right either.
Ideally, I'd prefer to be contacted by the buyer if they have any issues with my service I was unaware of, or negligent in.

For some reason if feedback is done on an iPhone then the ratings are reversed. so they may have thought they were giving a 5 but you got a 1

Really? I've never tried leaving fb from my iPhone.... that would certainly explain the problem though, thanks,

kustom, I don't think they do it by mistake, or in haste - not all of them of course. Maybe some do - we have only had that once, when it first started - and the buyer was horrified to see that 1 star didn't mean the best!
As soon as we see uniformly low stars for everything and a glowing f/back - directly at odds with each other we write to the buyer to see if they can make up their mind was the item, postage, communiction and the rest of fabulous or not! They can't have it both ways at the same time - impossible, like trying to be at two places at once!
Those ones NEVER bother to reply, so one can only conclude they knew exactly what they were doing, cowards most likely, thinking DSR's are annonimous and they will get away with it - just for the thrill of it I suppose.
That is when we contact Ebay and have them removed.
Just got the same massage as you did minute ago, someone here compared the stars from "before" and "after" - again - no difference.

James, yes I suspect there are some people who abuse the DSR system on purpose and I agree that's a very cowardly thing to do. I've remarked on that before, in fact. I don't know why they don't just leave a neg if they have such a major problem with the transaction -- or better yet, why they don't contact the seller to sort the matter out in the first instance.
As a buyer, I don't use the DSR system at all, as a matter of principle. I dislike that the system is anonymous, so just I put my opinion in the comment, with my ID attached to it.
