Good morning all,
it looks like this year will be the first time that Ebay will declare my earnings to the ATO as I have gone over their threshold.
For those that have dealt with the ATO on this issue:
1) Does the figure that Ebay supplies to the ATO include or exclude postage costs and fees : ie is a gross or nett figure?
2) Does Ebay also advise you of the figure they have supplied to the ATO?

How much is the threshold?

Last year I believe the report threshold was $AUD10K.

Be careful what you wish for. The only thing that ebay will give us if the ato starts taxing them is higher fees. At the moment it's the sellers who are benefitting from the fact that ebay isn't paying tax in Australia. If they start getting taxed here, that money has to come from somewhere - and there's only one place to get it! Yeah, guess who?

That's how I feel about things when there's talk about bank profits. Raise a special bank tax...where is it going to come from? Billion dollar profits? Nope. Us.
Should big companies pay their fair and legal share? Yes. The problem is if they haven't been...then it is an excuse to slug us more.
To me that shows a huge flaw in the system. Companies (or individuals) "get away" with things, because they CAN. That's the problem...change it and then hey presto they'll find they CAN just pass it on.
