Ebay fees are a joke!!

Well, this is becoming a common subject in this forum.. Not only the system to sell is not user friendly, but more, Ebay is stealing the seller in imposing his absolutely unjustifiable Fees.. For each $500 you sell, they charge you $45 . This doesn't count their payment system Paypal Owned by Ebay, that also make you pay fees for receiving money from buyers..

I have tried to sell a car, for $500 , the car was bought by a spoof bidder with zero feedback, that sent me emails asking me to sell the car without even waiting for the end of Auction.. Not only we saw the car going just for $500, no one bet on it while the value was over $1000, but now, this guy won the Auction, did not pay for it, live in Victoria when the pick up was well advertised in NSW , his contact number was disconnected, and he did not answer my emails.. BUT EBAY will charge me anyway regardless of me having to deal with all that crap.. Ebay, one thing, stop being greedy and reduce the fees or be ready to hit the rock bottom like many websites.. Already, I can tell there is a very sharp decrease on people using Ebay to sell.. Me to start with, I will never sell again anything using Ebay, I am disgusted of your EXORBITING fees THAT YOU CANNOT JUSTIFY JUST BECAUSE YOU RUN IT.. we are the ppls that make you win the money, so be a bit more smart and stop using us as milk cows.. soon it will turn very sour and you will have just smelling bad cheese on your table. I invite everyone to comment and say honestly what you think because the more you say, the better they will understand... thanks.

I will be better off I think, just doing some quick calculations - not by much, but still for me that is encouraging. It certainly means I can afford to keep listed those items which only sell occasionally.

I will not be offering so many auction items under the new system, but that won't affect me greatly. It certainly won't be worth listing $5.00 worth of goodies when the listing cost is $1.50. That I think is ridiculous and would have to be aimed at reducing the number of low value auctions that folks can see. Thus creating a greater gap between professional sellers and mum and dad sellers getting rid of stuff.

Time will tell as to whether it is a successful move by ebay or not. As with all previous changes, those who move and adapt will most likely succeed.

And just on the subject the OP opened - I think this is the cheapest place to sell a vehicle and it works, but you have to be carefull, there are heaps of buyers out there who can make life difficult. The suggestions made by other members are very relevant and important. It is very important to know eBay's rules, in most cases they are there for the safety of all members - sellers and buyers, and if followed, work.

And is it correct that the final selling fee includes postage costs which have already been paid for as a service.Just wondering, does anyone know..?

Fees are about to change to be much simpler.Over ten years ago I had a very small stall in an antique market selling "smalls" - not much worth a lot. My rent was $45 a week plus 10% commission on what I sold and I had things stolen or broken most weeks. Also most weeks I owed THEM money !! Ebay has proved a much safer and easier way - I still have a load to list and now look at it as recouping some money I "saved" with my buying !! It is so much easier to see what is selling well and hold on to other stuff for a while. It is your choice to sell on Ebay or not and to list at the price you want to achieve. Stop whinging and get some help to be more efficient in your selling if you want to continue.

I just sold something for $599 here in Australia. eBay fee was $83.76!! I nearly fell off my chair. I'll be sticking with Facebook Marketplace for such items in future. I feel robbed! I didn't realize they took so much.

Look at it from the buyers point as well as you could get one on gumtree for half that price. I think you would prefer to pay more in fees and sell for more at the same time.

Aside from dragging up a 9 YEAR OLD thread. Were you also stunned when Paypal + eBay fees were almost exactly the same as they are now ?????

Not every one knows about these things. Might be 9 years old but to some people it is new to them.

Responders should be looking at the dates of threads before commenting, if those threads date as far back as this one, then it's a given that eBay policies will have changed during that time (which is the case here).

Thus the comment was not relevant to the OP, and the commenter should have opened a new thread with their problem.

Maybe 'some people' should check out the fees before listing/complaining. Easily accessible information. And current, rather than what is contained in this thread. And looking at how old a thread is before they bump it.
