FEATURED STORE VS BASIC STORE

I am thinking of dropping back from a Featured strore to a Basic store as my sales have dropped along with the ammount of listings.

Has anyone done this and is there any hidden penalaties such as hidden higher fees or a drop in search rankings. I do not want to drop down to a basic store only to be shafted by Ebay for doing so in some way?.....................................

The fees are a little higher, but won't necessarily cost you more in total, as it depends on listing / sales volume.

The basic store is $19.95, 200 fixed price listings included (can also be auctions if your items are in any of the collectibles category, but pretty sure lures etc aren't). Each fixed price listing over 200 costs 50c, and FVF is 1% higher than it is with a featured store. (Basically, if working off FVF alone, you need to turn over $3k+ per month for the $30 difference in price to start being worth it for the 1% break, but if working off listing quantity instead, any more than 260 fixed price listings and a featured store will be cheaper in terms of monthly store and listing fees - this is based purely on non-media categories, which yours are). 

I don't think there is any difference in exposure with the different store subs, not that I've ever seen or heard about, anyway.

Anyone actually downgraded from a Featured store to a Basic Store?........................

I downgraded to basic about 18 months ago.  It never made any difference to my sales volume but that may be because of the category I sell in, and it's fairly rare that my competitors sell EXACTLY the same item as me.

As digi said, you'll get less free listings, you'll pay an extra 1% in selling fees, and you pay 50c listing fee for any extra listings you do over the 200, rather than the 20c you pay for extras with a featured store.

I use mainly large letters so my selling fees on the postage component aren't very much (around 16c on my average sale).  I worked out that if I sold $3,000 a month, the total for my shop fees and selling fees would be around the same whether I had a basic or featured store.  If I only sold $2,000 a month, my total fees would be around $7 more if I had a featured store.  That's based on calculations I did using my average sale amount and postage, which would vary between sellers and their products.  It also assumes I'm only using my free listings.  If you use parcel postage you don't need to sell as much as the above figures before a featured store pays for itself.

It was posted in here the other day that from July the basic store fee is increasing to $49.95 !!!!!!!!!!!  -  nothing about extra listings allowed etc.   Not sure if I'm interested in keeping my store if that is the case.   Anyone got more or better info than this ??
