Howdy guys,

I'm about to start up a new line or products (once stock arrives) and I'm trying to cover all of my bases before I put them up for sale.. the one thing I was wondering last night is... what if someone buys the product and than claims it to be a fake??

I will be selling the type of makeup brand that I know a lot of girls love but I am also aware that there are a lot of fakes going around.. Now I know myself that I will be selling 110% real products but how on earth do I go about proving that to the client without realising my wholesaler?? I know that when push comes to shove I would need to just give all the information to paypal and they would be able to see that my wholesaler is the real deal.. but is there anything I can do before that step?

I only ask this because once I had brought an item from the company and than put it up for sell because I never used it.. but someone tried to claim it was a fake... even though I brought it from the company! and it was such a hassle trying to prove everything

All replies welcome 😃 and thank you!

Not sure what bizrate is but I went to their website and put in my suppliers website and their products have loaded up..but I cannot see how far back... is that good?

there website says "was founded in 2002" they seem to have stores all over the US.. so hopefully they stay that way.. I am hoping they will become my main supplier.. if they shut down than I will need to regroup.

Thank you for your reply, I need to do a lot of research huh lol.

I know huh! it's the same for a lot of other brand names on here.. it's a real shame that this can happen on eBAY.

The other day I saw someone selling an Urban decay item and they were claiming that they were selling it for cheap because it's "Factory seconds" needless to say.. Urban Decay does not sell "factory seconds". this is in their info page.

Of course I emailed them about it and they did not reply but just shut their ad down..

I did contact them and they said that they are found on the company's website as an approved disturbor of the products...

Hold onto that email/message with both hands!

Work up some wording to the same effect to include in your listings and ask the overarching comapny if you may use it in your "advertisement"

ie: My supplier is a certified and approved distributor of these products. Therefor you can shop with me in full confidence that what you are buying is 100% genuine. (something like that, but you get the idea - just insert your product in there somewhere iykwim, so they are approving specifically what you sell)

Ask specific questions and get specific yes and no answers. Do not leave anything open to interpretation.

One thing I have come across (not with make up) is people purchasing the genuine item, then substituting their own non genuine item with it and then claiming that to be the item that was supplied (the fake one) and thus a claim of the item being fake.

That is why i think that certificates of authentication may not be issued from a supplier, unless you have been audited by them as a authorized seller.

How easy would it be to buy 100 of a product, get the authenticity certificate and then buy 1,000 or 10,000 of the fake product and everytime there is a dispute you trot out the authenticity certificate.

I wonder if this is how such a large company like Target was caught out.

Maybe in your best interest it  would be a good idea to keep a ledger of your purchases cross referenced with the sales, so that if there is any problem you can show that you have only ever sold an amount that tallies with your purchases from the legitimate wholesaler and have sold 100's more than you have purchased ?
