I apologise for just diving on into my probelm for those who whilst curious don't know about eBay's File Exchange system. If
interested you are welcome to leave a comment/question and I will try to help out with what I know in future posts.
I am in the process of writing a program to transform the descriptions of all of the old listings in our store, into listings that use a new HTML template.
I have worked for a few weeks on this (and on and off even longer) but I have now hit a road block. The File Exchange Revise requests I upload come back to me with a Load Results report that claim "RECOMMENDED_FIELD_VALUE_MISSING".
There is no error code or error message. The above message (repeated several times and separated with |) is reported in a column with the label Code. There is also a message (with the column label of Message) that states:
Top Rated Sellers are eligible to receive benefits on listings that offer same-day or one-day handling time,
a minimum 30-day return policy with a money back option, a free domestic postage option and an express postage option.
This latter message is also repeated several times and separated by |.
I have searched hard online for hints and advice with little success. Hence I still fail to understand what is causing this to happen.
For any old hands at using File Exchange here is a summary of my approach so far:
- I export from Turbo Lister, in File Exchange format, selected listings I want to change.
- I export all fields. I tried using a few selected fields such as ItemID and Description but I get the same errors as above. I now export all fields hoping to include the missing recommended field, but so far it hasn't helped.
- I wrote a VBA program in Excel that reads in the exported information.
- It carefully handles any line feeds and carriage returns and the commas within the description (these are a well known problem for File Exchange).
- This program strips out only relevant content and puts it into a new HTML styled description.
- This is the only field I change in the exported Turbo Lister file. I then save everything into a new CSV file.
- Checking my output CSV file all seems to be fine.
- I then upload this file with an AUS approriate Action field header and with the Action field set to Revise for each row of the CSV file..
- Unfortunately I get the above errors as my results.
I have used eBay's File Exchange utility (that strips out any problem carriage returns etc) on the description html from our old listings to help me in my program development. So far I think that I am correctly handling the description HTML as I write above.
I am trying to keep this post reasonably brief so if anyone would like to know more then please let me know. I will provide further details as per the requests I receive.
