I wanted to put up a new item but message came up I must register to managed payments. So I go to the link where it says "express interest". I fill out the form but skip the "Why are you interested in managed payments?" because I am not interested in it. Off course it won't let me continue. So I feel I'm being forced to voluntarily sign up for something I don't want. When I dig deeper, I find they also want driver's licence and who knows what other persona information which in no way I will submit to some private company online.
The question I have is it even legal to force people this way or simply deny their service?
I've been with ebay since the start but this will probably be the end of it. What are your thoughts

My guess is eBay intends to transaction in crypto currencies. That is what this is about.
They are not a reporting entity unless this is their intention.

Scroll down to "eBay Payment Entity", where it lists them by country - the last one is:
eBay Commerce Australia Pty Ltd (“ECA”)
Level 18

Sydney NSW 2000
Australia
ECA is registered as a remittance service provider with, and is subject to the supervision of, the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (“AUSTRAC”), PO Box 5516, West Chatswood NSW 1515. You can check ECA’s registration by visiting AUSTRAC’s website at https://online.austrac.gov.au/ao/public/rsregister.seam.

Yep. Less than 2 years old. That makes sense. That’s not the eBay business I have an account with…
So when they say you NEED to provide your personal identification what they are actually saying is… we want to set up a payment processing business.
Ebay COULD just operate the business on an accounts payable/receivable basis and you could just pay using an existing mechanism and receive funds via your own bank account…
EBay can bugger off. They forced PayPal down our throat when they acquired it years ago. Now they are forcing their latest business venture down our throat.
And they are kindly trying to increase fees in the process.

I didn't have to give pay pal any formal ID, such as passport or licence, etc. just my bank account details.
So are you saying that, if Ebay didn't use Adyen, and went back to old system with paypal, we would be able to operate as before?
If so then E bay are doing MP for their own benifit not ours?
I've stopped selling some time ago because of MP, just asking.
Thanks.

According to the Wikipedia: "The name Adyen means 'start again' in Sranan Tongo. This is a reference to this being the second project of the founders, after Bibit."

With Paypal, I've given my credit card details, Phone, Address, but I don't think License, passport they are the ultimate prize for any scammer!
