All I can conclude is some people have more money than sense. The bottom line is that ebay is just a buying & selling forum & anyone with any sense buys things because they want or need them, not to get some sort of 'revenge' on a person they have never met.

For some people, it's just about "winning", they are narcissists and if something doesn't go their way, it's everyone's fault but their own, and being able to get what they want by any means necessary is "justice".

I have had some other interesting experiences over the years, of course, including the buyer who claimed there were items missing from their order, and when I called them out on it they said they would never lie because they are a JP, went on to open a PP dispute for INAD, when they had to return the order, they sent an empty registered envelope (so, this JP won't "lie" but will steal Smiley LOL), and another buyer who messaged me daily telling me how upset she was that she didn't get her $4 necklace (and it wasn't "I'm really disappointed it hasn't arrived yet", it was literally "You have made me very upset"), and another who raged at me because I don't allow pick-up and she wanted to buy something for a birthday gift that wouldn't be delivered in time, but the story of the buyer above stands out above all of them for the intial feeling of having no control over the situation, which I did not like at all.

My actuall BBL has a lot of names on it, I honestly am not tempted to count them, but it would be in the hundreds. For anyone curious, these are the primary reasons I will block someone:

Fraudulent claims (INR, INAD, chargebacks, or telling me there are missing items when there isn't).

Disrespect (I know this is vague, but I work from a position of mutual respect, I give it automatically unless something is done that voids it, and I expect it in return. If someone demonstrates that they have no respect for me, I will not deal with them. This includes things like trying to tell how to do my job, sending me angry messages because they misunderstood something, not being able to take a decline of their request with grace, or just otherwise being rude for no reason).

A long and not-so-colourful history that is evident in their feedback left for others, eg only ever leaves negs, appears to be very unlucky with receiving their orders, etc

Unpaid items - I give a good couple of weeks before I start thinking about UPIs, so if I have to open one, the buyer has had ample oppourtunity to pay, or at least get in touch

Leaving me a neg or neut without contact and / or for stupid reasons (or no discernible reason, eg it just says "disappointed")

Leaving me a stupid criticism, even though the FB is positive (I don't read my feedback often, but I've caught a few who left basically negative comments with positive dots)

I might be a little more "uptight" than some sellers, I guess, but I invest a lot of time in my business, and I'm not interested in investing the (considerable) amount of time it takes to deal with buyers who behave in the manner(s) above, if I can avoid it.

If I am unhappy with a seller, I ask them to put me on the block list, as I do forget and do not want to deal with them again.

Just getting to see this post now but have to say, that habit some buyers have of giving a neutral or neg & just writing 'disappointed' is actually one of my absolute pet hates- as a buyer.

It is so vague. If soemone is disappointed, I would like to know exactly what about. Even if it is about the item itself, at least they could say what the problem was. Disappointed is no help to anyone.

I personally just fill in the blanks myself, and presume the people who leave FB like that do it for one of two reasons - the first being that they're the type who have experienced sellers falling all over themselves to get a red changed to green, but don't have the backbone to be upfront about their extortion (plus, they probably rationalise that everything was intitiated by the seller, and it was all their choice. If a seller does contact them and provide some kind of resolution, like a refund, it also confirms to them that they deserved it because the seller admitted fault bt offering it of their own free will, and reinforces that non-contact negs are "good", and don't even need to contain an actual reason).

The second being those that don't elaborate, because if they did, they'd publicly out themselves as a malicious idiot, and they don't want to admit to themselves, let alone anyone else, that their disappointment is their fault. It's the old "I made assumptions about this product, but when it arrived I discovered my assumptions were incorrect, this is a fault with the seller and / or product, rather than a fault with making assumptions about products instead of reading descriptions".

There are a special few (I've even had a couple) who leave sellers negs / neuts for reasons along the lines of that second one, and even include "my fault" in the comment. Smiley Frustrated Buyer type 2, version upgrade - removed shame. Smiley LOL

Oh dear, I just realised I wrote soemone instead of someone.

I usually try to edit when I notice. I can spell (well, most of the time), but am a 2 fingered typist.Smiley Frustrated

My stance on feedback is that if a person is going to give it at all, they should try to make it useful.

I am exactly the same on that other buying site, catch, where people leave stars & optional comments for products. Some buyers leave one star and no comment and for me, it is the same thing. Why only one star, what was it they didn't like?

I don't know about anyone esle but the only reason i read feedback is to learn more about a product (or on ebay, about a person's buying experience).

I think you are right and some buyers are disappointed because they haven't read descriptions properly then are startled when they receive the actual product. Read about a man once who bought a chair and it ended up being a piece of doll's furniture-he hadn't taken note of the description & dimensions. At least he had the grace to laugh, although I guess he was 'disappointed'.

Straying a little OT here but on the point of people not reading descriptions, DIAGRAMS save so much pain.

I recently began stocking an item and an accessory. So there were 50 variations of the item itself, and the accessory was only compatible with around 10 of those variations.

All of my listing descriptions were crystal clear about whether or not the listed item variation would work with the accessory.

Of course, in spite of this, I started getting orders for items that were incompatible with the accessory + the accessory. So I messaged those buyers and just confirmed with them that the item they purchased was incompatible with the accessory they had purchased and, of course, they were shocked.

So then I made a diagram for my accessory listing - showing every variation of the item that the accessory was compatible with. In large font, the diagram said, "if your item variation is not shown - then the accessory will not work with it."

No more problems. Everyone seems to understand (so far ...)

People are very visual. Use diagrams. (Won't always work, but it helped in my case ...). I know eBay says you can't put text on images, but as long as it isn't your first image (that shows up in search results), I think you're good.
