Got my first Message from a New Buyer, from a place I don't ship too.

Hello. I just received my first question from a new buyer, who just registered on the 2 August 2014 and this indivual resides in Malaysia and I do not do International Shipping on any of my products.

I said those who I DO NOT ship to block them from contacting me, but somehow this one got through and contacted me. How is this possible?

Also, this individual is stating that they'll pay more then the initial Bid or Buy it Now price. $69 More (of the Buy it Now Price) to be exact plus postage they said, I have an uneasy feeling about this as they said that had a "Attention Buy Error" hence the reason they contacted me.

What is the best option for me?

I se a message and they replied back stating they tried to bid or buy but got the same "Attention Buy Error" when trying to by the phone, saying they have contacted eBay and eBay informed them "it's because I am not from your country" (sic in quotes).

It's a new buyer from Malaysia and I don't ship Internationally. which I mentioned to them and they said "I am done contact if you change your mind. (Sic in quotes)

It sounds like your blocks worked then. They can see your listing, but if they try to bid/buy, they get an error. I've seen it before when I tried to buy something from a UK seller. They said they posted to Aus, but for some reason, Australian buyers couldn't bid. They said it was some change to eBay.UK and they couldn't fix it. In hindsight, they probably had blocks in place that they forgot about. That was ages ago before I found these forums and learned a lot of this stuff.

Not 100% though. As I blocked them from contacting me especially for those who I don't ship too.
And hey still managed to get through.

I was under the impression that the block actually removes the "Ask a question" link from listings if a buyer is blocked from buying, but doesn't remove the "Contact member" link from a profile page - did the question come via the listing or was it just a direct message to you asking about the phone you had listed?

It may be hard to tell - when someone clicks on the contact member link from a profile page, they can enter an item number to indicate what they're asking about.

I'll test it for you if you want - let me know if you put my ID on your BBL and I'll attempt to ask a question about an item you have currently listed.

Re: Got my first Message from a New Buyer, from a place I don't ship too.

Ok, the ask a question and contact member links were showing, but blocked me from going ahead and sending a message (presumably so the Q&A would still be accessible). I tried using an item number via the contact member link, but that blocked the message, however it does appear I can send a message no problems if I just tick 'this is not about an item'.

If a buyer sends a message via a listing (and presumably by using the item number via contact member), the message subject line should be [member ID] has sent a question about [item title]. If it was a general message like the one I was able to send, it should just say [member ID] has sent a message
