Greedy Ebay

Ok So I sold an item, and of all places it was purchased by a buyer in France. So here is the break down

Sold for $90

Purchased for $75

Gross profit of $15

Minus the following:

FInal valuation fee : $8.91

Fee on postage costs:$3.96 (International Airmail of $40 )

Paypal fee :$ 3.42 As Paypal is owned by eBay

Leaving me a nett profit of negative $1.29

As of now I will not be selling items over 500 grams internationally anymore. and seriously considering not selling international anymore. Its nice to know Australian competitors in Asia can offer free or next to nothing postage to Australia cheaper than it costs an Australia seller to post to the same city.

I find this highly discriminative practice soley aimed at wiping out small to medium sellers in Australia. Unfortunatley no one that works for ebay in Australia has the ticker to take a phone call, as the call centre "cant find a direct line" to the Australian office.

Is it just me that finds this unfair?  They can spin anyway they like but its simply a greedy cash grab in our pockets.

I gave up selling to overseas buyers 2 years ago due to the huge postage costs and dysfunctional Australia Post policies on registered post, insurance, confusing forms and a whole host of things that I can't be bothered explaining. Now that postage costs are fined with more eBay fees, then Paypal fees on top, it's not worth one working their guts out only to line the pockets of rich multinationals who don't even pay a morally acceptable share of tax in this country. The whole eBay site has gone downhill as things are just way too expensive trying to cover all the costs! It's cheaper to buy things from a B&M supplier or direct from a supplier's own website.

If eBay were to charge GST, that comes from the buyers and sellers.

That means an additional 10% on our costs/

Why, considering the length of time that eBay have been operating and thus the lengthy timeframe in which the ATO and sundry have had to investigate (it's not like eBay is a little unknown entity) and determine if eBay need to charge GST, would any of us want to push the issue?

If a person feels that strongly about donating an extra 10% of their expenses to the Govt, then I am sure that they take individual voluntary donations.

The corollary of this is of course is that if eBay don't charge GST, then they can't be expected to pay GST, eh?

So if anyone feels that eBay is robbing the country, perhaps for the sake of a clear conscience, those who are concerned could make voluntary donations to appease their troubled conscience and sense of social justice.

Ooooohhh!!! You make me so angry with your continual defence of eBay.  Doesn't matter what thread you are on, eBay can do no wrong.

The corollary of this is of course is that if eBay don't charge GST, then they can't be expected to pay GST, eh?  It's about time they did.  And I will guarantee you the majority of eBayers who are now being ripped off on a GST included expense would agree with this.

No, they don't. ebay are not the end consumer!

eBay admit no such thing.

Because if a sellers costs ruise by 10% (ie they have to also allow for GST on their items, then this is passed onto the buyer who is the end consumer.

That's just being a petulant kid. eBay receive no GST to declare! They do not charge us GST, on anything.

Australia Post charges GSTk, it is they who has to pass on the GST to the ATO

Not one person who usee eBay is being charged GST by eBay The GST component on postage is collected by Aus Post, NOT eBay. It is Aust post who are responsible for passing thatv money on to the ATO

Well, it is what Dinga wants us to do! Push and have us charged GST until our costs rise even further than they are,
