Grrr my first incident rg postage

So this was bound to happen i guess.     If anyone had read my posts on how i was trying to send some of my smaller items as a large letter.  Well today I got a message that one of my buyers had recieved the item but had to pay 6.90 postage at their local office.   Well of course i immediately reimbursed her the postage and she was friendly about it thank god.        I was really hoping however that the post would just return the item to me so that I could have corrected it,  but i guess not.

Now I know there will be those that say I told you so,  oh you should only send items the correct way la la dee da.

So the item is two pacifiers and they are squishy no hard plastic bits like other pacifiers.       I did my research in the way of looking at what other sellers were doing for postage (all standard with stamps)  I even ordered one to see how they had packaged it.  I checked their feedback to see if they had any postage problems and they had sent plenty no hiccups.

So now i guess i will go back to taping them up to make them smaller (other seller had just thrown them as is in the envelope)       I went through and messaged all my other buyers to make sure they had, had no problems but no responses yet.     Ive sold about 5 now and not one buyer has left feedback either which I know is normal but I just want to make sure everyone is recieving their items correctly.   So Im hoping that emailing them all doesnt open me up to any scam artists but seems like the only way to test the water and make sure everything else is going well.   Oh well,  learning curve.   I may just skip out on the paci's if there is anymore trouble and stick to my swaddles which I have recieved feedback and mention of quick postage (they were also sent as large letter though)      And then just stick to items I can justify posting as sachels.             So there you go,  you can do all the research,  see what other sellers are doing  but your plan may not go accordingly just the same.

I've found that AP send me a fine notice in the rare event that I've underpaid on postage.  Never had a buyer say they had to pay:O

I'm The same as mother, if I have got it wrong Aus post sends me the bill. Did you have a return address on the letter?

We all smile in the same language.

I had to pay once, as the receiver, because the sender had not used a return address.

Not the most logical of options - firstly because it would mean your customer having to wait twice as long for their items. Secondly, Aust Post now have a $5.00 charge for parcels returned to sender - so you would be out of pocket roughly the same amount anyway.

I've had an underpaid postage notice sent to me once - it was just on 2cm when posted, but I'm guessing (as it was an item of clothing, vacuum sealed) that the packaging was puctured at some point and it expanded. AP always send them to the sender of an item if there is a (legible) return address on the parcel. Aside from anything else, I would recommend having it on there so that mail is returned to you if it's undeliverable, rather than going to the dead letter office.

yeah thats the thing my return address was on the envelope,  so i thought they would send it back to me.       I picked up the gauge today and measured before i sent one off,   just slid through with a nudge like mentioned above,  touched the edges of the carboard of course but i didnt have to stuff it through or anything,  hmmm I guess its just luck because like I said the other seller of this item on ebay has been sending hundreds out this way,  and not even taping them down  like i started doing,  wonder if she's going to start having the same problem soon.

Was it a standard regular letter licorice? Express can only be printed matter.

yes gems,  it was a standard padded bag with two stamps, under weight but i guess it was over 20 cm.    Im not sure how sensitive this letter sorter is but it would have squished through easily i say squish because even if it was over 20 cm it would have been squishy,  not that it matters.

just slid through with a nudge like mentioned above,

You obviously didn't read properly what was said above.

If it glides through it is OK

if it needs a nudge it is NOT OK.

Please be a lot more careful when reading.

Sometimes, through no fault of the sender, the return address can get "damaged" while going through the mail system and this is probably what happened with this parcel.  It only takes a few drops of water for an address to be smudged to the point of being illegible.
