eBay has restricted my account for 7 days because of a selling violation. A buyer messaged me asking to pick up an item. I never usually allow this, but for some reason this time I made an exception. Because I had never sold an item for cash pick up before I wasn't sure of the procedure and just ended the listing after they had paid. I sell hundreds of items a month so it should be clear I wasn't trying to cheat the system. I called and explained my situation and offered to pay the fees I unintentionally avoided but the representitive I talked to rudely tried to tell me I knew exactly what I was doing. Yes, in years and years of selling 1000's of items on eBay all this time I was plotting an elaborate scheme to cheat ebay out of their $7 cut of a $100 item...
eBay is my sole source of income. It's not much. I have bills to pay (including my eBay bill). If anyone knows anyway I can get this sorted PLEASE help me.

I hope that's all it is, then.
Hard lesson learned, I'd say.

A lot of ebay reps wouldn't know the rules so wouldn't be able to explain things to you.
A few people have had restrictions for the same reason lately. It's a pity sellers don't have the ability to mark something as sold so ebay automatically take the fees for pick up items where the buyer doesn't actually buy on ebay. A work around for this would be to get a friend to buy the item if it's been sold as a pick up item. The seller could send an invoice with zero postage and then mark it as paid. Even though ebay could see the messages from the actual buyer they'd probably be happy if they got their fees on the sale, and they may only check the messages when items are ended without a sale.

Have you done this before at all? As in, (allegedly) selling off eBay? The reason I'm asking is, I got a "warning" today, but no sanction. The message suggested that I may not have known it was wrong to sell off eBay, so this was just a courtesy message, but if it happens again, I'll be punished.
Yes, someone local did contact me. They included their phone number. They wanted the item. I corresponded with them via eBay messages and organised a time and place to meet. They were to BIN once they'd looked at it. The next day I got it out of the box and promptly dropped it on the floor and it smashed. I contacted the buyer via their phone number to tell them and ended the listing. I don't think anyone would have wanted a smashed one, so could see no reason to keep the listing alive.
I did mention to the buyer that I had a similar one that wasn't listed if they were interested. I took a photo and sent it and they wanted that. So, I sold it to them off eBay. I didn't see a problem with that as it wasn't listed and had never been listed, so really it was nothing to do with eBay.
Same with the items I'm showing them next Saturday morning. They buyer and his partner are redecorating their house and like the sound of a lot of the unlisted items I have, so I'm taking a few boxes for them to sort through. If they want them, they can buy them. The ones they don't want were going onto buy swap and sell anyway, not eBay.
My guess is the bots trawl the messages sent and flag certain ones, which then either receive a "courtesy" email, or a sanction.
