Prepaid Parcel Post satchels Small
5kg
355 x 225mm
$9.20
Parcels up to 5kg - Australia Post packaging
Small
5kg
$8.95
+ $0.25 satchel cost
or
+$1.38 box cost (I think, I can't find the exact right box on AP site)
So what's Aust Post packaging if its not prepaid satchel? and why would you buy prepaid satchels if it is cheaper the other way, whatever it is?
You're not dopey, it took me quite a while to figure out.
I would rather NOT use prepaid since it means I can keep my cash until I am ready to send an item

Still better off for the 500g to use ebay label then at $7.55 plus satchel.

I suspect eBay rates will go up in line with AP's. They always have in the past. So $7.55 is unlikely to last much past 30 September.

I know boxes have been discussed in this thread, but after reading and re-reading the increase tables - is Own Packaging also to stick to the size dimensions within the prepaid satchel table? - I read the footnote re cubic weight. would it be correct to use the dimensions in the prepaid satchel to go by when own packaging?
apologies for my dimness - can we still send letters without tracking, without the prepaid envelopes, or is that now scrubbed? as I see the to 250g isn't mentioned. TIA

I talked to a couple of people at my post office and they are also slightly confused about Ausposts Boxes.
They think that the "If it fits it sends" is for the satchels.
Using Auspost Boxes will still cost you money to buy and then you pay the "own packaging rate" which as far as I can see for 500grams and 1Kg and up to 5Kg wont be cubed. Just a flat rate (where currently anything over 1Kg is cubed)
For me this is a big thing as I send mostly boxed parcels to WA, SA, QLD, VIC from NSW. I will end ip saving money on postaage, well my buyers will anyway.

Most people use the satchels and thats where I think Auspost has hit the hardest. They are making it look like they are giving you good value by upping the weight to 5Kg's for every satchel but in reality unless you are posting lead or gold its all for nothing.
They increase the prices of pre-paid satchels and pretend to offer you something new which in reality is a mirage.

posting lead or gold...
or books.
It won't be a mirage for me as it will reduce the postage costs on a reasonable percentage of my sales.
