or books.
It won't be a mirage for me as it will reduce the postage costs on a reasonable percentage of my sales.
I am a small part time bookseller and was looking forward to the changes too, but...
According to my experienced LPO managers, AusPost had a big meeting yesterday about the new satchels.
This morning my local LPO received the new guidelines for the new satchels (different to the ones they received about a month ago):- they will be post paid, sold singly, the LPO will print the address labels, then scan them into the system.
Their area manager came in whilst I was instore earlier this week and she didn't have clear answers to the example I gave (a 1.2 kg book that fitted into a small satchel) and was going up higher to learn more.
The red prepaid satchels will still be used but sent by weight, as they are now.
It seems a little crazy that LPOs are confused this close to implementation.
This seems to go against what has been posted here.
I am confused, so any enlightenment would be appreciated muchly...
TIA Jo

Yes twyngwyn
I believed that to be the way of things but new guidelines were sent to my LPO this morning that seems to muddy the waters..
There are to be two lots of satchels - the current weighted ones and the new single post paid ones, according to the new guidelines??
Hmmm, I'd like to stick with the info in the said Posts 11 & 14

Sorry if I'm having a grey hair day but...
Just a thought... Is there a difference between a 'Flat Rate Satchel' mentioned in Post 11 and the red 'Prepaid Parcel Post' satchel?

I received this email from a Postmaster this morning....(in part)
As you might be aware unfortunately Australia Post satchels are going up as of the 30th of September. The price rise for satchels is roughly 10 percent and with it come some changes.
The changes are quite radical with all future satchels being more about size than weight. The four current satchels 500g, 1kg, 3kg and 5kg will be classed into sizes instead of weight eg with the future model the 500g will be classed as the 'small' satchel.
The future names will be as follows Small (current 500g), medium (current 1kg), large (current 3kg), and XL (current 5kg). All four satchels will be able to hold up to 5 kilograms regardless of size eg a current 500g satchel will be able to hold 5 kilo instead of 500g. If you have current satchel stock as of the 30th of September the stock you have will be converted to the new class of satchels and will be able to be sent business as usual.
In my honest opinion I believe it is best if you are able to stock up on the current available stock do so as the current satchels will still be able to be used in the future and are considerably cheaper!

Well I just can't get my head around it - what's the difference between these 3 and why is (1) dearer?
(1) Prepaid Parcel Post satchels Postage for eligible Australia Post satchels up to 5 kg is a fixed price to anywhere in Australia based on size, rather than weight.
Small $9.20
(2) Parcels up to 5kg - Australia Post packaging
Small $8.95
(3) Parcels up to 5kg - own packaging
500g $8.95

This isn't funny......there's a 50/50 chance that one of them is correct....but I doubt they would change tack now, as everything has been WIDELY reported
