(1) Prepaid Parcel Post satchels Postage for eligible Australia Post satchels up to 5 kg is a fixed price to anywhere in Australia based on size, rather than weight.
Small $9.20
(2) Parcels up to 5kg - Australia Post packaging
Small $8.95
(3) Parcels up to 5kg - own packaging
500g $8.95
Based on current info - pre-paid are just the satchels where you buy the satchel with postage included. Aus Post packaging are the flat rate satchels or BX boxes that have specified weight / costs but you just buy the packaging up front and pay for postage as you use them, either through My Post, eBay or other systems. (PayPal look like they're introducing a postage labeling system at some point in the future as well). Own packaging would be any other packaging, and / or non-flat rate parcels.
If you buy a flat rate satchel, they range from 15c to 45c, but a small (500g) satchel is 25c in the smallest pack size - buy the satchel (25c) and postage ($8.95) in one, and it's $9.20

(2) Parcels up to 5kg - Australia Post packaging
Small $8.95
You buy auspost boxes, then pay postage depending on the size. All can carry 5Kg (starts at $8.95 for small)
(3) Parcels up to 5kg - own packaging
500g $8.95
Use your own box. Based off weight and not size. Flate rate anywhere in Australia. Over 5Kg is cubed and weight.
Up to 500g : $8.95
500g to 1kg : $12.20
1kg to 3kg : $15.35
3kg to 5kg : $18.50

Looks like we have some enterprising sellers who ae now selling satchels at more than they're worth
For example, look at 500g x 10 Express Post satchels on ebay - for say $128 or $125
when you can buy them direct from Aust Post today for $109.75.

There have been a few over the last couple of months selling 10 packs of standard 500g satchels for over $100. I certainly wasn't tempted.

helpful to hear about the stickers put on by AP. sounds like they will lose a lot of $ in the short term?
It'll be like it is now, every post office will be different. even now if I use my own mint stamps on my own packaging and ask for a (complimentary) article id that every parcel is entitled to, I get various responses. only yesterday I got "only for our charge account customers).
gonna be some very confusing changeovers.
so is there not 250 - 500g letter rate not using prepaid envelopes?

Hello all,
I have just started reading this thread and I am so confused. Nowhere in that link does it mention tracking?
As a rule I use letter post , untracked because I didn't know you could track them.
Prepaid tracked satchels, 500gms, 1kg, 3kg and 5kg.
This thing from Australia post seems to suggest that they are reducing the costs of satchels substantially, surely this cannot be true?
Also quickly read something that suggest eg if you can fit 2kg into a 500gram satchel this is acceptable.
Perhaps I am misunderstanding as it seems far to good to be true.
I still have a lot of satchels with tracking to use.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thank you.
