How would you proceed with this refund

Hi All, I am after a little bit of advice or a shoulder to cry on.

Received a dress back in the mail today that the buyer wants a refund for, Buyer states the care label on the dress is curled up which to her is an indication dress has been worn. I politly explained that I washed the dress before sending as it has been in my wardrobe for a little while.

The dress is new, never been worn, is in perfect condition with no signs of wear at all....only a curled up tag.  Im thinking maybe it didnt fit her. I find it very unfair I have to refund the dress & both way postage amount.

I cant afford another red dot as have already received 2 undue negs in last few days....guess I have no choice except to bow down to another buyer & refund her full amount. GGGGRRRRR

What would you do ?

Re: How would you proceed with this refund

That is an extremely good point and one I wish more buyers of clothes would consider. They pay one tenth of the price for something and then leave a red dot because it has a piece of loose cotton or something totally inane. The price must always be taken into consideration when buying second hand - I mean do you expect perfect for 5 or 10 dollars? I certainly would not for a used item. You'd expect it not to be something you might wear to the Melbourne cup, but perfectly acceptable to wear around the house.

As I say - not all buyers have the same values as us. I have seen some real doozies, as I'm sure we all have. But great point peternt2001 - you'd be a great and very reasonable customer to have !

yoda..I feel for you!

Contrary to some people's advice, I don't think that a brand new item that has been washed has to be listed as second hand, as there are many other ways to confirm that the item is indeed new & unworn.

I don't know what Ebay tells sellers, probably they say unwashed & unworn for new, fair enough - that is the most obvious thing, but if I bought a lovely dress that someone took the trouble to wash, get it ready to wear I would be very grateful.

Especially if after detailed inspection I had to conclude that the dress is perfect, irrespective of what the classification says - I would be more than happy - what's there to complain about?

Can't be sure, but from your description of the situation your customer is using the flimsiest and only excuse she can find to return the dress with all expences paid!

I bought a trench last year from a well known site, listed as new but with dry cleaning tags still attached, $20 cheaper than the brand new- they said it had smudges of make up around the neckline from being tried on in the store - which must have  been true as the coat certainly was new. They only deducted cost of dry clean, that's all, no any other price allowance.

And that's exactly what I received, a lovely clean new coat!

Re: How would you proceed with this refund

Maybe the buyer thinks the item has been worn because the OP washed the dress.

And I think it is reasonable for a buyer to think that the item might have been worn, why would you wash a brand new without tags dress?

Re: How would you proceed with this refund

It really is self defeating anyway to list an item as BNWOT and then say in the description that it has been washed, especially as many buyers do not read descriptions anyway.

Before I had a store I would sometimes have two items the same, one with tags and one without. I would wash the one without and list that one as used but say it was in as new condition, the other would be listed as BNWT.

The second hand one almost always sold for a higher price than new!
