I have a buyer claiming that item was not picked up by her, now wants a refund??

Hi all, recently sold a set of bunk beds and arranged with the buyer that I would leave it out for them (on Wed afternoon) because I would not be home at the time they wanted to pick up due to other commitments with my children.  Now she is saying that she didn't pick it up and wants a refund and if no refund will come here on Sat to pick up?? I don't know what to do? Please help!

Well as Jimboomba is a rural area (and as you state you couldn't see the bed from the road) I find it terribly difficult to believe that someone just happened to be scoping out your place at that particular time, with an appropriate vehicle to transport the bed and left everything else untouched. If it looks like a duck etc.

I'd definitely be reporting the matter to the police. I'd also let the buyer you are doing so, in a non accusatory tone of course - "I'm terribly sorry that this has occurred, to get to the bottom of this I have made a complaint to Jimboomba police. As you had already paid for the item and therefore the bed was legally yours, they will be in contact with you shortly to ask how you wish to proceed".

Just a hunch but the thought of police arriving on their doorstep asking if they would be allowed to have a quick look through the house would probably nip any thought of a chargeback in the bud if indeed they are trying to pull a fast one.

I have paid pay pal and picked up furniture items before. 3 different sellers. I did wonder if the seller would leave them out, would they get stolen but that didn't happen. I was however prepared to except that as I agreed to this arrangement that if something did happen it was to bad because I made the choice to pick up at times convent to myself not the seller.
I would do as others have suggested and report it to the police as stolen property and if u decide to refund I would only refund 50% because u both took the risk.

Just a random thought, do any of your neighbours have video surveillance that might show the entry to your property or the road adjacent to it? I have a friend that lives there and they had a couple of horses go walkabouts a while back and installed cameras after that, I imagine they aren't the only ones.

Haha well I don't know that they would bother applying for a warrant over a $150 bed (mind you, stranger things have happened) but I'm pretty sure they'd ask if they could have a quick look through the premises as part of their "routine" investigation.

that was why is said IF LOL

my only dealings with the police was when I had one of the original GPS's that were like a mini computer and cost about $3K. I left it in my car, when I was in the doctors with my kid, someone smashed my car window and stole the mio machine.

I was in a strange city and can't use a refidex to save my life, so without the GPS, had no hope fo getting home (that was my biggest concern LOL)

found a police station by accident, went in. they put all this black dust all over the car for fingerprints, and then drew me a map and wrote out directions for me to get to the F3 to get home and I never heard from them again .

apart from that, I watch NCIS and go to law school.

Thank you everyone for your input, I have sent the buyer an email this morning asking if they wish for me to report it to the police but have made it clear that it was their possession stolen from my property at an agreed time for pick up. Will wait and see what they come back with. ๐Ÿ™‚
