I have a feeling we fell for a scam - buyer claiming counterfeit on a genuine very expensive item

I have listed my husband's very expensive phone (it's over $5000 brand new) and finally sold it at best offer for only $1300, much less than what we were hoping to get. But we really needed the money. I took all precautions - took very detailed photos, sent the buyer the IMEI number  and tracking number, insured the phone for $1300 when posted. She received the phone and literally the next day I receive a message that she believes the phone to be a copy or a fake. I am in a state of shock, I am not a retailer, I only sell my own second-hand goods and this phone was a gift from a close friend of my husband's. There is absolutely no chance that it is fake or a copy. She didn't even investigate,  i suggested that she takes the phone to a TAG store to check and she completely ignored that. I have a feeling this is a scam artist who is now requesting a return for refund and will send us back a fake phone to scam us.

My questions is, does anyone has any experience with what kind of process ebay/pay pal follows when a buyer claims the item to be fake? I listed the item with "no returns accepted" condition so I am also wondering - am I able to reject her return request?

Yes, it's a photo of me with my first son when he was little, I probably do need to change it even though it is tiny. I had that thought myself last night. What a sad world we live in 😞

Yes, ive seen both photo's, and yes blind freddy can see that the buyers photo does not match, what im getting at is this, if they show you photo of phone display, you can run a check on phone, and buy the buyer claiming it is fake they will have to get some sort of proof about phone, then submit said proof, and the IMEI's are not going to match with your photos plus the IMEI that should be printed on the original box.

It just feels weird asking for an IMEI from what is clearly a fake phone and an item which I have not sent. How would I word that question?

I agree with bakeandfry.....getting the IMEI of the fake phone could be very handy.

In an official investigation the police should be able to trace the owner of that phone.....if it happens to be your buyer in Canada he would be done like a dinner.

Just read your other post, (other peoples posts dont come up on phone while im typing) if your buyer takes fake phone with original box to relevent authority they are going to be done like a roast turkey, that is the fake phone IMEI should tell them that phone was not activated by you, or done in another country.

How is this for point 6:

Please type *#06# into key pad of the phone you claim you have received and send me a photograph of the screen with the IMEI number that comes up on that phone. I will follow up this number to see who it is registered to.

OP Why are you attempting to justify your actions diectly to someone you believed scammed you?

Rhetorical question above - i think i understand why, however i honestly don't think it goes in your favour in any way if you send that message to the buyer.

Why you accepted their offer complicates an already complicated situation.

Keep any message as succinct as possible and factual IMO, stop name calling and just send the paragraphs that relate to insurance and associated AP advice.
