ive sold an item and now the person who bought it has broken it and wants a refund after 1 week...i said no as they have damaged the item and i will give a part refund(not full)...they are not happy and have threated to break my legs, send bikies over, throw bricks at my house windows and basically threated to bash me if i dont give full refund...please note that these are 16 year old kids that had a fake address and contact details on ebay so i only have their phone number and also rego plates of their mums care(when she drove them to pickup item from my place)
What would you do in this situation?

item sold to them was Brand new!!
They mistreated and broke it
now want a full refund
im not scared about money or about fighting
only worried as these kids might resort to something like a cowardly act such as graffiti my fence or throw rocks at windows
Best thing i did was take the car rego number and i want them to know i did it ..if i didnt have the rego they would definately do something but they know i have it and even questioned me why i have!.....even if i do full refund they might do something as kids these days have nothing better to do than vandalise
speaking to their mummy now i know why they are such low lifes
Thanks to everyone for their opinion and please share more if you can as this will help me

Make sure you let them know you have reported their threats to the police. Lie a little bit and say that you've given the police their name and car rego number, or something like that.

I'm thinking a few bikies would be more then happy to teach these little snots a few lessons . One for wasting their mothers money , 2 for breaking something and 3 for threatening a member of the public using their name in disrepute
Don't fall for it but at the same token keep an eye out .

This situation sounds scarily familiar with me..A while back i put a cabinet on on atrading site online and listed with pick up only..A lady phoned to say she wanted it and to please hold it until she could come a few days later ..I agrred and arranged a time for her to come.On the day a car arrived with two teenage boys ( No lady)They said they were buying it for thier mum who couldnt make it.I told them i really wanted her to see it first as she had asked alot about if it was old antique style ect which i explained it was a recent make with old style look but certainly not worth any more than i was asking..I really wanted to be sure she liked it.I told them to call her to be certain she wanted it now the boys were looking at it and so one did call her..After the call they insisted she was definate..I packaged it up safely with padding around glass doors ect and they left..Next day the woman rang..she apologised that she had made a mistake and didnt want it afterall..She asked if her sons could possibly return it back to me and as she had muddled me about offered to accept 40.00 less as an apology and there fore only wanted 140.00 refunded.I was a bit frustrated ..How ever i said that would be ok and as long as it was returned in the same condition it left me i would take it back..The boys turned up. again Carried it inside and then demanded a full refund.I said the mother had requested only a partial refund for wasting my time and we had made an agreement..They said they didnt care what i had discussed and if i didnt give them the money they would not only break the cabinet up in my house they would also be returning to do more..The larger boy then started to threaten me..I was home alone and the boy was very big and acting quite unresonable..I was arguing my point but something told me it was safer not to pursue and so i gave him the full refund back..The other boy was very nervous..Ithey left and i took the registration number which i reported to police..I then rang the mother telling her i had done so and if any thing further happened they would be the suspects..It was a horrible shakening experience and i wondered how ofen they had done this before..It certainly taught me a few rules about allowing people to your home..

No way would I be giving them a cent.
You haven't mentioned any proof that the item is damaged, only that they are claiming such.
Tell them where to go, don't open the door to anybody you don't know, forward any written correspondence, the mother's phone number and the car rego to the cops.
If the threats WERE in writing, and you get a damaged house, there is a reasonable chance the threats will constitute enough for the cops to at least visit them. Maybe even have a look at the damaged goods?
You could also be VERY insistent with the cops. To the point of them doing frequent patrols of your locality.
I doubt too many 16 year olds have access to bikies, especially ones who will do anything to somebody who doesn't interfere with their drug trade or contravene their code. Like claiming to know bikies.
Many, many years ago I had a group of idiots in my cab. They decided they would kill me, and told me they were Rebels. I told them killing me would really stuff up my night and they must know my BIL. Why? Because he's a Rebel. Suddenly they weren't Rebs anymore and were prepared to pay twice the fare for me not to mention the matter to my BIL.
There are many wannabes out there. Don't cater to them.

i have been to the police and they have given these fools a ring letting them know not to play around
Even if i give them a refund they might do something
Im not worried about bikies or fighting as im not bad at it and not scared of a single thing.but why should i go to jail for a bunch of idiots and me fighting can only end up bad either way ill get bashed or ill bash them and go jail so fighting them would end in war and it would be wrong choice to take(if i was single with no kids id go that way)...im only worried for my family and about my property the most.

There are lots of ways to avoid gaol, especially if you're dealing with trepassers. Reasonable force is the key. The more there are the more reasonable any force.
Up to you, but I've been threatened by better than them. I have found NOT caving in to be the solution.
