I  disagree with you.  The listing quite clearly says 'Posts to Australia'.  There shouldn't be any need to put blocks in place for other countries when the statement is there in black and white.  And the $15.00 postage is again clearly within Australia, as that is what is listed.

The 'Cash on Delivery' is quite obviously meant as 'Cash on Pick up' - a lot of sellers make that small inaccuracy in their listings.  But hey, you didn't mention that PayPal was offered as a payment method!!

I agree with character_parties, put a huge postage amount on it, which would solve the problem.  OP advise the buyer that it will cost $XX to post, and do they want to do a rethink.  I understand that 'change of mind' is a legitimate reason now for a buyer cancelling a transaction.

So, other posters, why should there be a defect involved?

Hi kazam, disagreement is fine.......wish I had a dollar for every buyer who DOES'NT click on Postage & Payment !

I do not understand 'quite obviously meant"......sellers are constantly advised by experienced posters to follow correct procedures....it's not that hard.

The issue here is that if you want to play the game then play by the rules.

Blocks should be in place if you wish to exclude certain locations & buyers.

Too many buyers & sellers just jump in & then whine when it all ends in tears....do it right the first time & avoid the pitfalls.

Boy you have got yourself in a pickle !

Your listing says NOTHING about not posting o/s and you offered CASH ON DELIVERY !!!

Good luck.......why jump in before checking the depth of the water ???

It does say only this (as a guide):

Posts to: Australia

Cash on Delivery payment option: (COD) is a postal service where the buyer pays (postage cost & fee) on collecting the item from their nearest Post Office.

It doesn't mean a seller will deliver the item to the buyer and collect payment in cash for it at the same time.

I would be doubtful the buyer is genuine... US citizens can by electronic stuff same price or cheaper new there.. no doubt people sell of their old ipads at a good price too.

Hi kazam, disagreement is fine.......wish I had a dollar for every buyer who DOES'NT click on Postage & Payment ! You'd probably be retired in comfort by now.

I do not understand 'quite obviously meant"......sellers are constantly advised by experienced posters to follow correct procedures....it's not that hard.  Most sellers do not  come to the boards before they list an item.  They believe they are doing it right, some just make the mistake of opting for COD when they MEAN Cash on Pick Up.  Seen it many times, but it is not something to have them drawn and quartered for.

The issue here is that if you want to play the game then play by the rules.

Blocks should be in place if you wish to exclude certain locations & buyers.  I will continue to disagree with you here.  If the item is listed as 'Posts to AUSTRALIA' then that is what the listing is.  It is the buyer who is not 'playing by the rules' in this instance because of the clear statement by the seller.  No blocks should be required.  Actually I'm not quite sure which part of 'Posts to AUSTRALIA' gets past you.  Where in the listing is the option for an O/S buyer??  AUSTRALIA means exactly that.

Too many buyers & sellers just jump in & then whine when it all ends in tears....do it right the first time & avoid the pitfalls.  Seller did it right, buyer didn't.

You know what - just had a thought - maybe eBay should have an option that states 'SELLS ONLY TO AUSTRALIA'.  That should take out any ambiguity regarding POSTS to Australia.

And then there wouldn't be a need for posts like yours that put the OP down.

Isn't there a choice in cancellations options for - buyer doesn't live in a country I post to?

If a seller chooses that option do they get a defect?

Apparently, if the seller doesn't have country blocks in place, doing a cancellation will give them a defect.  Load of crock!!.

No one should have to have country blocks in place if they only POST TO AUSTRALIA.

If I was in Op's shoes I'd just work out the postage cost, put it to the buyer, then find out if they wanted to cancel (change of mine I believe doesn't get a defect)

The word was 'mind' not 'mine'. Just had another Optus glitch. Still swear Optus is owned by eBay with all the glitches that happen.

Yes the system is quite ridiculous that even when you select in a listing no international postage if you don't have your account /site blocks in place international buyers can still purchase your goods.

How new or casual sellers are supposed to "know" this, when they select in good faith NO INTERNATIONAL POSTAGE when making a listing is unclear.

Why would someone look up international post information when they are not interested in posting internationally and think they are selecting an option in a listing that precludes this when they do their listing ?

Hi again kazam.

Agree with you 100% that Ebay should have that option......but at the moment they don't.

Am not putting the Op down, only expressing an opinion.

How hard can it be to tick nine boxes to exclude o/s buyers.....I managed to do it & I'm as thick as too short planks.

I fully understand what Posts to Australia means......but COD(which is universally regarded as MEANING just that) should not be used if Cash On Pickup is MEANT.

I stand by what I said.......how many buyers click on Postage & Payment when a postage price is already shown & they are able to bid on the item?......which of course they would not be able to do if the blocks were in place.

As an American Policeman once said to me "Sir,we don't need commonsense we got rules....obey them!" LOL.

I may not like a lot of eBay rules but if I want to trade then I have to follow them

Not a very constructive or helpful reply to someone seeking help on how to proceed with a problem they have. Where is your advice as to how they should now proceed?

but COD(which is universally regarded as MEANING just that) should not be used if Cash On Pickup is MEANT.

That is irrelevant to the OP's issue though. It is also a quite commonly used, for the wrong reasons.

I have only recently ticked the countries I won't post to (after taking note what I read on this board) after 10 years of selling on and off.

I do post to UK,Canada & US only. I have had buyers ask before bidding/buying if I post to Malaysia or Ireland (which I will do). Never had anyone bid/buy one from other than the designated countries.

It is not something you would expect a new seller to look into, if they have no intention to sell to overseas buyers... cut them some slack. How would a new seller know that the  Postal system is dodgy in some countries, for example, Italy, Nigeria.. how would they know which countries they should exclude  for that reason?

When I look at items for sale on ebay.com.. if the listing says Ships to: United States I wouldn't bid on them and/or hit buy it now

I might bid/buy if it said Ships Worldwide or to Australia, Canada, UK etc.

The buyer needs to use common sense. Message the seller and ask if they will send to another country.
