I sold a car door trim that was marked 'pick up only' and the buyer asked if it could be sent to him

I sold a car door trim that was marked 'pick up only' and the buyer asked if it could be sent to him in Melbourne. (I'm in the Blue Mtns).

This was AFTER he had committed to buy and the listing had ended.

I told him I could ask a freight Co I have used before and get back to him. Which I did 2 days later.

I went out and bought wrapping materials and spent an hour packing it.

I have emailed him 3 more times and never heard a word back. I have also tried calling his phone - no answer.

I have now cancelled the sale but would like to leave negative feedback for this jerk.

How do I do that pls ?

I see you have 25 after your name so maybe you haven't done a lot of selling on ebay.

In any case, you have my commisserations. "Buyers" like that are a pain, aren't they!!

First they ignore the words pick up only, then they get cold feet because they suddenly realise that surprise, surprise, they will have to pay freight costs.

Okay, you've done your dash on this sale unfortunately and to make matters worse, ebay may even end up blaming you because you're the one who cancelled the sale.

But here's what I would do if there is a next time:

If you advertise something as pick up only, then by all means get a freight quote if you wish, but check out the conditions first, you don't want to be running across town to deliver it & definitely don't start wrapping anything before a freight charge has been agreed on and paid.

You're better off just saying sorry, it is pick up only, let's arrange a mutually agreeable pick up time.

It's not your worry where they are located, it is theirs, they are the ones who bid on a pick up only item.

If they don't or won't get back to you or don't turn up after a week, just start an unpaid item dispute.

Even if they pay via paypal, the onus is still on them to pick up the item. You never have to change the terms of your original ad.

As a seller, you can only leave positive feedback. If a buyer gives you grief, just don't leave any feedback at all for them. Why boost their score? If you can, go the way of unpaid item dispute instead, that gives them a strike. It's invisible but it's there.Smiley Happy

You cannot leave negative feedback for a buyer....ebay removed that option many years ago.

Why on earth did you pack the item before the buyer had paid?

Why did you not open an Unpaid Item dispute rather than a cancellation?   The buyer can now leave you negative feedback whereas if you opened and closed the dispute neither of you would be able to leave feedbavck.

You can't leave negatives for buyers.

You should have opened a nonpaying buyer case. You would have got your fees back sooner and you wouldn't have left yourself open to negative feedback from the NPB. And the 'jerk' would have earned a strike.

The seller section of the Site Map contains a wealth of information.

Springy, the OP only has 2 feedback as a seller but she obviously has not learned from the negative.

What you should have done prior to buying packaging or doing anything else is send the buyer a revised invoice with the delivery charge then if they did not pay that within 4 days you open an unpaid item case just as you would with any other transaction.

If you sent a cancellation request then you have left the door open for the buyer to leave you a neg and you should know that you cannot leave one for the buyer.

Thank you to all who responded.
Lesson learned !
I spoke to an ebay rep and they said to cancel and re-list ,which is what I have done.

That would be the 2 feedback you have received as a seller, the last of which was a seemingly deserved neg.

As Lyndal said.

You have received 2 feedback as a seller one of which is a negative and appears to be well deserved.   You chose to cancel that transaction as well.
