Interesting Stock Market Observation of eBay

Article pretty much sums up all that wrong with eBay and why it's imploding.....     eBay Destroying It's Brand From Within

eBay's constant system and policy changes imposed by neophyte CEO John Donahoe are responsible for the steady year/year sales decline the company has been experiencing over the last two years.

With a first time CEO who has essentially no experience as a company leader or as an eBay buyer or seller, changes imposed by Mr Donahoe miss the mark and are driving small and medium sized sellers from the marketplace.

To build a successful business, sellers need a platform that is solid, stable and successful. Under CEO Donahoe, eBay has become anything but. Constant changes to policy, systems, and search, coupled with fee increases serve to make the eBay platform uniquely unstable and inconsistent. The result is an ever increasing numbers leaving eBay.

The problem is compounded by Mr Donahoe's ignorance and disregard for eBay's past. History proves that eBay's most active buyers also happened to be eBay sellers. Constant policy and system changes continue to alienate sellers and as those disgruntled sellers leave, they also cease buying as well.

Mr Donahoe once publicly dismissed unhappy eBay sellers as "noise". The statement fully illustrates the disregard and disdain Mr Donahoe holds for his own fee paying customers.

This alienation and erosion of sellers fully explains why eBay sales are steadily declining while other sites like Amazon have seen consistent and significant increases. Previously Mr Donahoe has dismissed eBay's declining sales on the state of the economy. Mr Donahoe's excuse is no longer valid as eBay seems to be the only online retailer that is seeing traffic statistics decline and gross sales shrink.

The problems at eBay have been created from within eBay and come from the top. The problems at eBay continue because eBay fails to see the site's issues have been self created by a CEO that grossly disregards the essential fundamentals that enabled eBay to become the one time online sales leader.

The company is in desperate need of new leadership and management.

"The site's issues have been self created by a CEO who grossly disregards the essential fundamentals that enabled eBay to become the one time online sales leader."

Well.... that's totally it in a nutshell!

The scales have been grossly tipped into the favour of the buyer (afterall the customer is always right, even when the customer is sometimes simply an a$$hole.)

They bought out the competition, so there's really no other viable platform on which to sell successfully in any kind of volume.

They continue to mess with what's not broken to begin with.

Thank you for the share!  At least after reading that, I feel that my feelings about the status quo have been validated.

hope it keeps imploding too.

CEO might lose their job and ebay might go back to what it was. well,at least maybe close to it.

but then again it could all be too late for them to resurrect from the dead as sellers discover "other" ways to sell online..... there is, life after ebay..

By the time Ebay get rid of him, will be too late, we will all be gone.

Like Allan Joyce with Quantas, too little too late, would never fly with them now. He should have been gone years ago. Just wonder who is keeping him in a big salary,  while stuffing up the company, with both Ebay and Quantas.

Re: Interesting Stock Market Observation of eBay

Gee millions of ebay users have been saying for the past few years that ebay has lost the plot with all these un warranted & made up rule changes.

ebay was a platform that everyone felt in control of there selling & buying. but those days are gone.

what ebay should do is re set there system to where its last worked as it should remove all these crazy changes that has made ebay what it is today.  we sellers can claim that fees are over priced and fees on postage is unfair but in fact its our buyers that are paying these fees because we add these fees into our selling price. one wonders why buyers are no longer buying ?.  ebay in there greed to grab more fees has forced sellers to over price there iyems in a way ebay is fast becoming one of the dearest places to shop.  plus many people fear that the site has been hacked once what been placed in order to make sure it dont happen again. ebay has done little to nothing to advise people the site is safe to use.

The company is in desperate need of new leadership and management.

the company is in need to re think its past doings and listen to the people that matters most the buyers & sellers that spend there coins here.   Mr Donahoe has shown time & time again that his policys are killing ebay but all he is worries about is his highly inflated pay pack and bonus.  if ebay continues down the path they are traveling soon ebay will cease to be alive. somebody surly within the management has a few more brain cells than  Mr Donahoe and is brave enough to do something about removing Mr Donahoe from his post.
