This wouldn't work if ebay requires a tracking number & his father has nothing to do with the transaction
The buyer is in the system, but his father isn't
Yeah?

Ebay will think the delivery got stuck in oz somewhere, not to the buyers address in UK, therefore ebay would refund the buyer?

Just from the sparse detail posted, this bears the hallmarks of a common scam - some convoluted excuse about shipping to a relative (cousin on an oil rig, missionary father overseas, stuff like that), asking for a PayPal address, spoof email sent re: payment, someone out there receives a free item.
If the buyer is genuine, most of the time they don't contact you and tell you some story, they just buy and enter the address they want it sent to during checkout (thus no compromising anything, as you then send to the address recorded on the transaction, like normal).
If it is someone who has bought and checked out with their UK address, and now want it sent to an Aus address... well, that's weird, too, since they would have unnecessarily paid 20% more for the item (UK VAT, which I presume would not apply if they checked out with the Aus address).
It'd be a no, from me, anyway.

After saying I wouldn't ship these magz to UK , with ebay charging sellers 13.4% FVF which includes *shipping*! these days.
And this lot weighs a bit. Wouldn't be worth it, it kinda nipped my international sales in the butt.
Plus my listings aren't checked for international deliveries.
He says he would get them sent to his father in oz anyhow, but he didn't specify whether he would change his delivery address in his account.

So, the buyer first asked if you would send to the UK, but after you explained that you wouldn't, basically just said what if I get them sent to my father?
That's a little more plausible - if you actually agreed, you would be paying an extra 1% FVF due to the buyer being OS, but if the buyer uses the Aus address during checkout, assuming everything is on the level, the transaction wouldn't technically be higher risk than any other. So, that would be the stipulation to make, if you decide to allow the buyer to purchase, that they enter the correct address during checkout (they would actually have to, come to think of it, if you don't have postage set up for OS, since they shouldn't be able to checkout with unspecified postage costs).
The "hallmarks of a scam" thing I mentioned is more for the ones that give some stupid, unnecessary reason why the person the item is being sent to can't buy it themselves, and often they will offer a bit more than the asking price, too, for that little extra temptation to believe whatever yarn they're spinning.

He first asked if any of the ten magz contained a poster about Nascar racing at the Thunderdome in Melbourne
I though geeze what a hassle coz I'd have to dig them up and search through them, then noticed below the message where this ebayer is located.
I didn't want to bother with it assuming he wasn't really interested in buying.
(You make some interesting points that I didn't know about, Digital)

I had the exact email sent to me with an item sold but not paid for. Came up with some story about not being able to pay for it from the UK and wanting it sent to a relative here in Australia. Then wanting to pay for it outside of Ebay. It's the second time in two days that I've had emails like it ! I politely declined.

There have been a few different people very recently say on the forum they have had similar 'sales' where a buyer overseas somewhere wants the item sent to a relo in Australia but they but can't pay etc
I would'nt want to touch such a request either, there are more and more of these popping up
The rare one might be for real, be given how many of the same story have been around in the past couple of weeks, there is no way I would be going ahead with the 'sale' either

Worked out well with this buyer, offered me a price for Thunderdome liftout programmes, posters and reviews I couldn't refuse, ended up sending him the magz complete, and there was an aussie address in the order details.

Incidentally, on my much established account I used to post from home - regular postage, I'd recieve requests to send items at different locations, as gifts, and had no issues, they weren't based OS though.
