Think this is a pretty fair question looking at the scam that is 'Best match'.
The same sellers are ALWAYS on top and as a result no other seller gets a chance. Never mind that those sellers on top are dearer in prices and using inferior parts/items.
Clearly the explanation given by Ebay as to what puts sellers on top in best match is an outright lie.
So, the question stands: Does Ebay take payments to keep the same sellers on top in best match?
What is even more suspicious is the fact that Ebay knows about certain sellers who are deliberately stealing from buyers. 100% proof of this was provided to them by dozens of people and Ebay's response? To allow these sellers to continue on their merry way selling and stealing using several fake business names.
Why do they use several business names? So as disgruntled buyers do not realise they are buying off the same people who stole from them previously.
Can it get more suspicious? Oh yes. When an account has dozens of negatives which mysteriously disappear from the system.
Think all sellers want is the same chance as every other seller. This most certainly is not happening on Ebay anymore.

I hear ya, and yes there does appear to be some strange things going on, i would like to think that where all given an equal chance to sell.
All i can do is work harder and hope it pays off.

Is ebay accepting payoffs ? - Nothing would suprise me these days. Most of my listings are one-offs, usually not the cheapest and they sit for awhile. Any of these get buried below sellers with lower feedback rates, often dearer, non power seller status etc. I look at some of these sellers above me in searches and just roll my eyes. I do have a few ongoing listings of multiple quantity items. These have long listing histories, views of over 1000, watches in the dozens and high numbers of sales over months or years. These few items are placed at the top no. 1 position in popular searches. It would seem from this that ebay still use their algorithms for some of the best match searches. This does not mean everything is above board though. Hope this info helps a bit.

gtx305, You mention sellers who have multiple accounts, and indicate it is a concern. Many forum users have multiple accounts, most for genuine reasons. ( including keeping their selling ID,s secure from unwanted attention while posting on the boards ) Am I missing something here ?

Chameleon54 I meant multiple accounts for fraudulent activity - like shilling, fee avoiding getting around bans etc.
